August 7: Donomore Meadows to Dutchman Peak - Leave at 8:00 AM Hike Leader Barry
TH: Turn at Ruch and head south for 9.3 miles. Just past the closed Country Club cross the bridge and take the second left onto Beaver Creek Road / FS 20. Up FS 20 for 14 miles to Silver Fork Gap. Cross the intersection and take the road at 11 o'clock which is FS 2025. Continue on FS 2025 for 4 miles to Donomore Gap and park on the right. EDT: 90 minutes. Description: Nice views on this walk along the PCT and great views from the Dutchman Peak lookout. Distance: 10 miles; elevation gain about 2,000 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 120 miles.
August 14:: Southgate Meadow and Gray Butte (Mt Shasta) (p. 218 in 100 Hikes) - Leave at 8:00 AM.
TH: Take the first Mt. Shasta Exit (mile 740). East on Mt. Shasta Boulevard to the first left and then right on Ski Village Drive over to a left onto Everitt Memorial Highway and then up to the Southgate Meadow parking lot. EDT: 90 minutes. Description: Beat the heat on this high elevation hike. The loop starts at 7,800 feet and reaches a high point of 8,300 feet. Head over to Gray Butte and then Panther Meadow and back up the road to Southgte Meadows. Be open to possible Lemurian contacts. Distance: 7 miles; climbing: 1,800'. Weather Forecast. August 21: Aspen Butte Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Take DIM up to a right on Clover Creek Road just past milepost 28. Follow Clover Creek east for 5.6 miles to a left onto FR 3852 (not sure the FR # is posted, but there is a sign on a tree on the right side of Clover Road pointing at the turn) The lead car will wait after making the turn. Proceed 3.4 miles to the TH at the end of the road staying on the better gravel road and bearing left when in doubt.
Description: A beautiful trail up a creek, past a lake, and over ash fields to the rim of a giant caldera with a commanding view of Lake Harriette, the largest in the Mountain Lakes Wilderness. We will be shooting to summit Aspen Butte, the highest point in this wilderness at 8,200 feet. It is a partially collapsed caldera (much older than Crater Lake) with many of its walls collapsed. It was created before the latest ice age and experienced considerable glaciation, unlike Crater, which is much newer and formed after the latest ice age. 10 miles, 2,400' elevation gain EDT: 60 minutes, Weather forecast. August 28: Rye Spur Trail to Fourmile Lake Shuttle Leave at 9:00 AM TH: Take Dead Indian Memorial for 34.8 miles. Turn Left on Road 3704 for 1.4 miles. Turn left onto Highway 140 and the trailhead is shortly afterwards on the right. We will drop off the hikers and take 2 cars down Forest Development Road 3661 to Fourmile Lake and leave one car at the day use area. The fee has jumped up to $10 so please share in the cost. We will then return to the trailhead off Highway 140. We will hike along the trail in the forest and cross forest development road 3633 and then continue over a canal. At roughly 1.9 miles we will stay right and continue along. Somewhere around 3 miles in, that has a good place we will stop for lunch. From there we will continue on and go to Fourmile Lake. We can take some time to enjoy the views since this is a shorter hike. Then the car at the day use area will take the drivers of all the cars to the trailhead and then return to gather the hikers. Distance 6 miles, elevation gain 1,525'. Weather forecast. RT: 90 miles. Drive Time: 70 minutes
