Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sunscreen and rain gear as appropriate. August 3: Mount Bailey (p. 56 in 100 Hikes) - Leave at 8:00 AM Hike leader: Francie

TH: Take Highway 62 to Union Creek, then branch left on Highway 230. Approximately 2.2 miles past the Crater Rim Viewpoint rest area make a left onto Road 3703. At 2.2 miles drop a shuttle car at the intersection with NF-300 (the rough road to the upper TH). Continue on 3703 for another 3 miles to a right on NF-450 for 0.8 miles to the abandoned TH.  EDT: 2 hours. Description: This year we will use the west side open woods approach to head up to the summit. After lunch we will descend the "official" trail past the hole in the rock and across the saddle. When we get down to the upper TH we will take a right on the road and walk 1.7 miles on NF-380 and then take a right onto NF-300 for 900 feet back to the shuttle car. Distance: 7.2 miles. Elevation gain: 2,600'. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 190 miles.

August 10: Cold Springs TH to Margurette Lake Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: TH: Take DIM to 140, right (east) for 3.2 miles and then left (north) on 3651 for 10.1 miles to the TH at road end. EDT 75 minutes.  Description: Out and back hike past the Heavenly Twin Lakes to Trapper and Margurette Lakes.  We are following the recovery of the forest after the 2017 fire. Distance: 11 miles, elevation gain 950 feet.  Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 110 miles.

August 17: Mount Bailey (p. 56 in 100 Hikes) - Leave at 7:30 AM

August 24: Upper Rogue Canyon- Highway 230 to Road 6530  (p. 100 in 100 Hikes) Leave at 7:30 AM 
TH: Take Highway 62 past Union Creek to Highway 230. At Hamaker Campground just past mile 12 turn right on gravel road 6530 for 0.5 mile then left at fork to stay on Road 6530 for another 0.2 mile and leave shuttle car at Upper Rogue River Trail sign on left. Then back to Highway 230 and go north for 6.4 miles to the Crater Rim Viewpoint parking lot for the upper TH. EDT 2 hours. Description: Follow the river along a 200 foot deep canyon back to the shuttle car. Reputed to be the most scenic section of the Rogue River. Distance 8.6 miles. Downhill 1,200'. Weather forecast. RT mileage 180 miles .

August 31: Kangaroo Lake to Bull Lake Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Head South on I-5 to exit 766 (Gazelle). Turn left (south) on Highway 99 for 7 miles to Gazelle. Turn Right in Gazelle onto the Gazelle Callahan Highway. Drive 18 miles to left turn for Kangaroo Lake (clearly marked) on Rail Creek Road. The TH parking for Fen Trail is on the left in 6.8 miles, just before the main Kangaroo Lake Parking. The TH is just across the Road. EDT: 1:35. Description: Climb to the saddle beyond Kangaroo Lake and down a short distance to the PCT. Turn left on the PCT and follow it all the way to Bull Lake. Overlooks include entire marble mountains, Trinity Alps and Siskiyou mountains as well as Kangaroo Lake, Robber Meadows, Bull Lake, Shasta and Mount Eddy. Destination Elevation: 7,080 feet. Distance: 8 miles; Elevation Gain :1,200 feet. Total Ascent: 1,400 feet. Optional descent to Bull Lake adds 1 mile and roughly 300 feet of ascent. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.
