Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sunscreen and rain gear as appropriate. April 6: Lower Rogue River Trail: Grave Creek to Alder Creek (p. 189 in 101 Hikes) Hike leader: Francie
TH: Take I-5 north to Merlin (Exit 61); drive thru Merlin and follow Galice Road 19 miles to the far side of the Grave Creek bridge; turn left downhill to boat ramp and TH; EDT: 90 minutes. Description: Follow north rim of Rogue River canyon past Rainie Falls to Alder Creek and back; spectacular scenery, but trail is a little rough in places. You may find poles useful on this hike for both the occasional side stream crossings as well as the rocky up and down trail. Distance: 10 miles; About 2,500' of up on this one; lots of little ups and downs that add up to a good workout. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.

April 13: East Applegate Ridge: Hike leader: Francie
TH: Continue thru Jacksonville on Highway 238 past Milepost 29 and Forest Creek Road (on the right) for another 1/2 mile to a small sign on the left "East Applegate Ridge Trail" near 5091 Highway 238 for the TH parking area.  EDT: 40 minutes. We will do an up and back of 10.5 miles with about 1,900' gain. Exceptional views.  Weather forecast. RT mileage: 70 miles.

April 20: Lost Creek Lake (west shore) (p. 82 in 100 Hikes) Hike leader: Francie
TH: Take Highway 62 to Lost Creek Lake and turn left onto Takelma Road at "Fish Hatchery" sign; drive past fish hatchery, power plant and dam to the turn to the boat ramp at 2.2 miles from Highway 62. Continue 0.4 miles to the boat ramp parking lot / TH. EDT: 75 minutes. Description: follow Lost Creek Lake trail to our usual lunch bench; return the same way Distance: 9.6 miles; elevation gain: about 1,000 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles.

April 27: Squaw Valley Creek Trail - Leave at 8:30 AM  
TH: South on I-5 past Shasta to the McCloud exit (736) and then east 10 miles on California 89 to the central McCloud exit. Right on Squaw Valley Road for 5.9 miles and then right on Politically Correct Valley Road (nee Squaw Valley Creek Road) signed for Squaw Valley Creek / Cabin Creek TH for 3 miles to the TH. EDT: 1:45. Description: An out and back walk along boisterous Cabin Creek (nee Squaw Valley Creek) to its intersection with Bear Trap Creek. The trail passes multiple rocky gorges and waterfalls. Distance: 10 miles; elevation gain: 800 feet. Spoiler alert: the elevation gain is all after lunch, but a barely noticeable 160 feet / mile. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 190 miles.
