Monday Hike Schedule for February 2022

Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen and rain gear. February 7: East Applegate Ridge -Depart at 9:30 A.M.
TH: Head up I-5 to exit 24, Phoenix. Left into Phoenix and then right on OR-99. Turn left onto Stage Road then for left on Griffin Lane.  In about a mile turn right onto West Griffin Creek Road for 2.9 miles which becomes Poormans Creek Road for another 1.1 miles to a T junction and left onto Sterling Creek Road. Go 4 miles to the 4 mile marker and the trail is well marked 100 feet past the sign.  5.5 miles total with lunch on top then back to parking. About 1,100' gain. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 70 miles

February 14: Forest Park Jacksonville Depart at 9:30 A.M.
TH: From the 4-way stop in Jacksonville continue 0.8 miles on Highway 238 to a right on Reservoir Road. Up Reservoir Road for approximately 1 mile to the second trailhead parking area on the left (P1A).  EDT: 35 minutes. Description: This will be a 5 to 6 mile loop in Jacksonville's Forest Park starting at P1A and encompassing parts of the Ponderosa Snag Trail, the Siskiyou Trail & Loop and the Rail Trail.  Weather forecast. RT mileage: 40 miles.

February 21: Viewpoint Mike (near Lost Creek Lake) (100 Hikes, p. 241
TH: From Medford drive Highway 62 past the turn off for the Lost Creek Lake fish hatchery and take next right (Crowfoot Road) a few hundred yards later onto a paved road. The parking area is soon after on the right and for the trailhead, cross the road at the back left of the parking area and you will find a sign marked Viewpoint Mike. EDT: 60 minutes. Description: very nicely laid out trail parallels Highway 62 as it climbs through varied terrain to a large rock outcrop with a stone wall looking down on Lost Creek Lake. Distance: 6 miles RT; elevation gain: 1,200 feet. Weather forecast.  RT mileage: 100 miles.

February 28: Lower Rogue River Trail: Grave Creek to Whiskey Creek RT (100 Hikes, p. 199) Depart at 8:30 A. M.
TH: Take I-5 north to Merlin (Exit 60); drive thru Merlin and follow Galice Road 19 miles to far side of Grave Creek bridge; turn left downhill to the boat ramp parking area and the TH; EDT: 90 minutes.
Description: Follow north rim of Rogue River canyon past Rainie Falls to Whiskey Creek; return the same way. Distance: 7 miles; elevation gain: 1,270 ft. Weather forecast RT driving mileage: 140 miles.
