January 5: Frank Hill Road/Trail. Posthike gathering at Liz's,
New Year/AHG party (potluck/BYOB). Meet at or near 1400 Ashland Mines Road TH for departure at 9:00 AM.
TH: Drive through Ashland, up Highway 99 turn left onto North Main Street, Right on Fox to Ashland Mines Road. Park at or near Liz Landreth's house at 1400 Ashland Mines Road. Frank Hill Rd is at the corner of Ashland Mines Road.
Description: Hike up the road which eventually becomes a trail. Continue up past abandoned trailers to multiple overlooks of the Rogue Valley. 6 miles out and back, about 1,000' of gain.Weather forecast. RT mileage: 20 miles.
January 12: Viewpoint Mike
TH: From Medford drive Highway 62 past the turn-off for the Lost Creek Lake fish hatchery and take next right (Crowfoot Road) a few hundred yards later onto a paved road. The parking area is soon after on the right and for the trailhead, cross the road at the back left of the parking area and you will find a sign marked Viewpoint Mike. EDT: 60 minutes. Description: A very nicely laid out trail parallels Highway 62 as it climbs through varied terrain to a large rock outcrop with a stone wall looking down on Lost Creek Lake. Distance: 6 miles RT; elevation gain: 1,200 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles
January 19: Lewis Loop - Ashland Watershed
TH: From CVS head west on Ashland Street, and bear right on Siskiyou Boulevard. At the light just past Triangle Park turn left on Morton. Head up Morton to a jog right and jog left at Ashland Street to stay on Morton. Follow Morton on up to where it curves back around first to the right then to the left where the dirt Ashland Loop Road takes off to the left and continues on up the hill for about 1 mile to the White Rabbit TH on the left. EDT: 10 minutes. Description: Head up White Rabbit for a half mile then right onto Caterpillar Trail all the way up to right onto Lewis Loop. Some views of surrounding mountains. Distance: 6 miles. Elevation gain: 750'. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 10 miles.
January 26; Sterling Mine Ditch / Jack-Ash Trail – Deming Gulch to Grub Gulch
TH: North on I-5
Exit 24 to Right on North 99
Left on Stage Road
Left on Griffin Creek Road go 3 miles

Go 1 mile to park near 7595 Griffin Lane
Leave shuttle cars.
Continue on Griffin Lane to
Left on Sterling Creek Road to
Left at sign for Deming Gulch
Left up the road to Deming Gulch TH
Description: Head north on the Sterling Mine Ditch for 3 miles to the intersection with the Grub Gulch Trail. Then up the hill for 2.5 miles with nice views down into the valley to the junction of the trail leading back down to Griffin Lane through many mining claims ending up walking through areas of hydraulic mining from the gold rush days. Distance 8 miles; elevation gain 1,000’. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 50 miles.
