Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sunscreen and rain gear as appropriate. July 2: Porcupine Mountain from Pilot Rock Trailhead Leave at 8:30 AM
TH:Take I-5 to the Mt. Ashland exit 6. Proceed on old 99 S for 1.9 miles. Turn left onto 40-2E-33 for 2 miles. Park on the right. Begin on the Pilot Rock trail for 0.7 mile. Turn left and head north on the PCT for 2.6 miles. Turn left onto the Porcupine Mountain trail for 0.6 of a mile. Return the reverse way. Distance: 7.8 miles Elevation gain 1,766 feet. Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: 30 miles.

July 9: Upper Rogue to Takelma Gorge and Knob Falls  Leave 8:30 AM
TH: Exit #30 off I-5 and go north on Highway 62 (Crater Lake Highway). Between milepost 51 and 52, turn left onto Woodruff Meadow Road 68, go 1.7 miles, and then turn left into the parking area (just before Woodruff Bridge). EDT: 80 minutes. Hike along the Rogue by very large Douglas firs to viewpoints over the spectacular Takelma Gorge. Return towards the cars. Continue past and hike to Knob Falls. Return to the cars. A hiking stick or two are very useful for a short stretch of the trail with many small lava rocks. Hiking. Distance: 7.6 miles RT; elevation gain: 1,216 feet. Weather forecast. RT driving mileage:120 miles.

July 16: Mt. Eddy (opposite Mt Shasta in California) (p. 210 in 100 Hikes) -Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Drive south on I-5 and take Stewart Springs Road exit (about 1.5 miles after passing the rest area next to Weed); turn right at both stop signs, then left onto Stewart Springs Road; after 4 miles, turn right onto Road 17 for 9.3 miles to the Parks Creek Trailhead. TH. EDT: 105 minutes. Description: Wildflower heaven, inviting lakes, spectacular views of Mt. Shasta; alternate turn around point is the ridge top before the long, barren slog to the summit. Distance: 10.4 miles; elevation gain to summit 2,200 feet,  Weather forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.

July  23: Big Red Mountain,  Leave from Rite Aid 8:00 AM
TH: From Talent on Highway 99 take a left on Rapp Road and follow Rapp which turns into Wagner Creek Road for 8 miles to a left to remain on Wagner Creek Road which becomes Wagner Gap Road / FS-22. Continue for another 10 miles (18 miles total from the turn off of Highway 99) to the junction with FS-20. Right on FS-20 for 0.8 miles to the Siskiyou Gap TH and parking in the clearing on the right. Description: The PCT winds around Big Red Mountain through cool woods and along some cliffs with a good trail. Lots of views. Near the high point before the trail heads down, turn left on a gentle slope through fields to the top of Big Red Mountain. Lunch on the summit with 360 degree views. Distance 6 miles. Elevation gain 1,200 feet. Weather forecast. Driving Mileage: 40 miles.

July 30: Mt. McLouthlin hike canceled. New hike: PCT Grouse Gap to Long John Saddle. Leave at 8:00 AM
