Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen, insect repellent and rain gear as appropriate. January 6: Lost Creek Lake - Marina to the Dam
TH: Up I-5 to Medford Exit 30. Take Crater Lake Highway, OR-62, north for 32.8 miles to a left into Stewart Start Park. Follow signs to the marina parking area. EDT: 1 hours. We will start at the Marina Parking and hike south to the dam and across it. Good views and a nice trail. The Rogue is very high as they let out as much water as possible. We will see if the Lake has changed with all the rain. Distance: about 7 miles with small ups and downs. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles.
January 13: Collings Mountain - Applegate Lake (p.146 in 100 Hikes)
TH: Proceed through Jacksonville on Highway 238 to Ruch. Left on Upper Applegate Road for 16 miles to the Hart-Tish TH where we drop the shuttle car; park on the west side of the road by the guardrail. Continue south along the lake for another 2.5 miles to the Watkins TH. EDT: 75 minutes. Description: woodsy trail with excellent views. Distance: 7 miles; climbing: 2,500 feet. Weather forecast. January 27: Lewis Loop - Ashland Watershed Hike leader: Joe Senter
TH: From Rite Aid head west on Ashland Street, bear right on Siskiyou Boulevard. At the light just past Triangle park turn left on Morton. Head up Morton to a jog right and jog left at Ashland Street to stay on Morton. Follow Morton on up to where it curves back around first to the right then to the left where the dirt Ashland Loop Road takes off to the left and continues on up the hill for about 1 mile to the White Rabbit TH on the left. EDT: 10 minutes. Description: Head up White Rabbit for half mile then right onto Caterpillar Trail all the way up to right onto Lewis Loop. Some views of surrounding mountains. Distance: 6 miles.
