July 6: Union Peak - Crater Lake National Park (p. 77 in 100 Hikes) Leave at 8:00 AM
TH:  Take Highway 62 towards the south entrance to Crater Lake National Park. The trail begins approximately 1 mile west of the entrance on Highway 62 at the Pacific Crest Trail crossing.  Description: This is one of our favorite hikes; great views combined with just a bit of a challenging rock scramble near the summit. Follow the PCT for 3 miles to the Union Peak trail junction.  Follow the Union Peak trail to the summit.  Distance: 10 miles; elevation gain: 1,600 feet.  Weather forecast. RT mileage: 170 miles.

July 13: Taylor, Ruffey and Meeks Lakes (Russian Wilderness) (p. 202 in 100 Hikes)  Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Take I-5 to Fort Jones exit (1 mile south of Yreka); follow Highway 3 for 27 miles to Etna; make a right on Collier Way and continue 10.4 miles to Etna Summit; EDT: 90 minutes. Description: We haven't done this variation since 2009.  We will start at Etna Summit and follow the PCT along a view-packed ridge crest to the Ruffey Lakes overlook.  From there we will drop down into the Meeks Valley passing Ruffey and Meeks Lakes and then climb back up to the PCT on the ridge for lunch above Taylor Lake. Distance: 9 miles RT; elevation gain: 2,500 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 160 miles.

July 20: Wagner Butte (p. 140 in 100 Hikes) Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: From Talent make a left onto Rapp Road and continue on to Wagner Creek Road. From the start of gravel continue 2.3 miles to a left to stay on Wagner Creek Road. Continue another 3.6 miles, making a left after crossing the cattle grate, to the TH which is 1.9 miles past the cattle grate. EDT: 45 minutes. Description: uphill most of the way, but great flower displays and spectacular panoramic views from the top. Distance: 10.4 miles RT; elevation gain: 2,800 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 40 miles.

July 27: Mount Bailey (p. 56 in 100 Hikes) - Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Take Highway 62 to Union Creek, then branch left on Highway 230. Approximately 2.2 miles past the Crater Rim Viewpoint rest area make a left onto Road 3703. At 2.2 miles drop a shuttle car at the intersection with NF-300 (the rough road to the upper TH). Continue on 3703 for another 3 miles to a right on NF-450 for 0.8 miles to the abandoned TH.  EDT: 2 hours. Description: This year we will use the west side open woods approach to head up to the summit. After lunch we will descend the "official" trail past the hole in the rock and across the saddle. When we get down to the upper TH we will take a right on the road and walk 1.7 miles on NF-380 and then take a right onto NF-300 for 900 feet back to the shuttle car. Distance: 7.2 miles. Elevation gain: 2,600'. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 190 miles.
