Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen, insect repellent and rain gear as appropriate. In winter, bring layers. TH = trailhead; EDT = estimated drive time; RT = round trip mileage; PCT = Pacific Crest Trail; DIM = Dead Indian Memorial Highway.  Vaccination against COVID19 is required. November 4: Lost Creek Lake (west shore) RT
TH: Take Highway 62 to Lost Creek Lake; turn left onto Takelma Road at “Fish Hatchery” sign; Drive to end of paved road and continue on gravel road about 2.5 miles (4.5 miles from Highway 62). Pass the Cross Creek campground and continue until you see a trail on the right coming up where the land beside the lake suddenly disappears and there is no place for a trail. There is a red marker on the sign. Continue a short distance to where you see a small road going up the hill to the left and just beyond it the well-marked Rogue River Trail to the right. EDT: 75 min. Description: Follow the trail along the Lake to left turn sign for the Blue Grotto and go left about 200 yards to the Grotto. Return by same trail. Distance: 7.5 miles: Elevation gain 750 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles.

November 11: Bolt Mountain  
TH: Take I-5 north to exit 55 for US-199/Redwood Highway towards Ocean Beaches/Crescent City. Continue on 199 for 2.5 miles. Use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto OR-238 E and go 1.5 miles. Turn right onto New Hope Road. Go 3.2 miles. Turn right onto Fish Hatchery Road and go 1.8 Miles. Turn right onto Wetherbee Drive 0.7 of a mile until you reach Fish Hatchery County Park. Park at trail head. There is a pay station below and the cost is $5.00. There is also a port-a-potty. EDT:1 hour. Description: The trail has a good mix of smooth trail and rocky sections. The first 2 miles are the steepest part of the climb. After that it is smooth sailing to the top for the most part. About 1.5 miles up the trail you'll see a small spur trail leading off to the northeast (right). Make sure you stay left there and follow the main trail. There are great views of the valleys and mountains around the area from the top. Distance: 6.5-7 miles Elevation Gain: 1,300'. Weather forecast. RT Mileage: 110 miles.

November 18: Viewpoint Mike (near Lost Creek Lake)
TH: From Medford drive Highway 62 past the turn off for the Lost Creek Lake fish hatchery and take next right a few hundred yards later onto a paved road. The parking area is soon after on the right and for the trailhead, cross the road at the back left of the parking and you will find a sign marked Viewpoint Mike. EDT: 60 min. Description: very nicely laid out trail parallels Highway 62 as it climbs through varied terrain to a large rock outcrop with a stone wall looking down on Lost Creek Lake. Distance: 6 miles RT; elevation gain: 1,200 feet. Weather forecast.  RT mileage: 100 miles.

November 25: East Applegate Ridge
TH: Head up I-5 to exit 24, Phoenix. Left into Phoenix and then right on OR-99. Turn left onto Stage Road then for left on Griffin Lane.  In about a mile turn right onto West Griffin Creek Road for 2.9 miles which becomes Poorman’s Creek Road for another 1.1 miles to a T junction and left onto Sterling Creek Road. Go 4 miles to the 4 mile marker and the trail is well marked 100 feet past the sign. We will do an out and back of about 7.5 miles with about 800 feet of climb. Exceptional views. EDT: 35 minutes.  Weather forecast. RT mileage: 70 miles.
