Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen, insect repellent and rain gear as appropriate. In winter, bring layers. TH = trailhead; EDT = estimated drive time; RT = round trip mileage; PCT = Pacific Crest Trail; DIM = Dead Indian Memorial Highway.  Vaccination against COVID19 is required. February 4: Crater Lake Snowshoe Leaving Rite Aid at 9:00 AM
TH: Rim Village Cafe parking lot, Crater Lake NP; EDT: 2 hours. Description: Follow the rim of the lake in a clockwise direction for splendid views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Return the same way. Don't forget your sunglasses and sun block. Safety first: please stay behind the tree line to avoid dropping off a cornice into the caldera. Distance: 5 miles RT; elevation gain: 200-300 feet. Annie Springs SNOTELWeather forecast. RT mileage: 190 miles.

February 11: Da-Ku-Be-Te-De Trail (Applegate Lake) (p. 158 in 100 Hikes)
TH: Take Highway 238 from Jacksonville to Ruch (8 miles); turn left onto Upper Applegate Road and drive 16 miles to the Swayne Viewpoint, one mile past Applegate Lake dam.  EDT: 60 minutes.
Description: Walk some 3.5 miles along the north shore of Applegate Lake to the Copper boat ramp (directly opposite the Manzanita TH on the south shore); retrace our incoming route after lunch. Distance: 7 miles RT; elevation gain: unknown—generally level, with undulations. Weather forecaast. RT mileage: 100 miles

February 18: Wolf Gap to Armstrong Gulch: Head up I-5 to exit 24, Phoenix. Left into Phoenix and then right on OR-99. Left onto Stage Road then left onto Griffin Creek Road. In one mile turn right on Griffen Creek Road and continue to a T Junction at Sterling Creek Road. Left on Sterling Creek and between Miles 9 and 10 look for a small TH sign on the right indicating a left turn to the THs. At the next trail signs, go straight to Armstrong Gulch TH and leave a shuttle car, returning to the trail signs to turn right as indicated towards Deming Gulch and Wolf Gap on 39-2-8, another 2 1/2 miles. EDT: 50 minutes. Description: Trail starts out downhill for 1.5 miles to the Sterling Mine Ditch, then right 6.8 miles slightly downhill to Armstrong Gulch. Distance: 8.3 miles; elevation loss: 800 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 70 miles.

February 25: Bolt Mountain  
TH: Take I-5 north to exit 55 for US-199/Redwood Highway towards Ocean Beaches/Crescent City. Continue on 199 for 2.5 miles. Use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto OR-238 E and go 1.5 miles. Turn right onto New Hope Road. Go 3.2 miles. Turn right onto Fish Hatchery Road and go 1.8 Miles. Turn right onto Wetherbee Drive 0.7 of a mile until you reach Fish Hatchery County Park. Park at trail head. There is a pay station below and the cost is $5.00. There is also a port-a-potty. EDT:1 hour. Description: The trail has a good mix of smooth trail and rocky sections. The first 2 miles are the steepest part of the climb. After that it is smooth sailing to the top for the most part. About 1.5 miles up the trail you'll see a small spur trail leading off to the northeast (right). Make sure you stay left there and follow the main trail. There are great views of the valleys and mountains around the area from the top. Some wildflowers will also be blooming. Distance: 6.5-7 miles Elevation Gain: 1,300'. Weather forecast. RT Mileage: 110 miles.
