Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen, insect repellent and rain gear as appropriate. In winter, bring layers. TH = trailhead; EDT = estimated drive time; RT = round trip mileage; PCT = Pacific Crest Trail; DIM = Dead Indian Memorial Highway.  Vaccination against COVID19 is required. December 2: Da-Ku-Be-Te-De Trail (Applegate Lake)
TH: Take Highway 238 from Jacksonville to Ruch (8 miles); turn left onto Upper Applegate Road and drive 15 miles to rest area by the dam.  EDT: 60 minutes.
Description: Walk some 3.5 miles along the northwest shore of Applegate Lake; retrace our incoming route after lunch. Distance: 7 miles RT; elevation gain: unknown—generally level, with undulations. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles

December 9: Wonder Trail - Ashland Watershed
TH: Drive up Granite Street alongside Lithia Park to the end beyond the swimming reservoir.  Straight ahead to the upper parking area on your left.  The TH is across from the parking. 
Description: We will stay closer to town and hike up the Wonder Trail. We will extend thereafter based on weather and inclination. Refreshments in Ashland after the hike. Length of hike TBD.  Weather forecast.

December 16: Cathedral Hills
TH: North on I-5 to exit 55, US-199 South / Redwood Highway. Follow US-199 south for 2.5 miles to a left onto OR-238 for 2.8 miles to a left onto Espey Road for 0.3 miles to a left to stay on Espey Road for 0.3 miles to the TH.  EDT: 1 hour.
Description: Cathedral Hills is a large complex of intertwining trails with ups and downs. This is a good winter hike because a ) it is low elevation and b) the trails were designed to avoid mud plus we discovered a new and better way of completing the hike last time. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles.

December 23: Bear Creek Greenway - Phoenix to Medford
TH: Up I-5 to Exit 21 towards Talent. Right on Highway 99 for 2.4 miles to a right into Blue Heron Park.
Description. This will be the continuation of an annual event. We will do the Greenway from Blue Heron Park in Phoenix to the Crackin and Stackin on Jackson Street in Medford for brunch. The food is inexpensive and excellent. After lunch we will walk over to the bus depot and take a bus back to Phoenix. $1 bus fee for seniors. Those wishing to can drive to Blue Heron Park. Distance: About 6 miles. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 20 miles.

December 30: North Elk Creek Park 
Directions: North on I-5 to Exit 30 and then up Highway 62 for 25 miles to a left on Elk Road. Park on right at intersection about 5 miles from the Highway 62 turn.
Description: This hike follows the creek to the remains of the uncompleted Elk Creek Dam. The Dam was planned to complement the Applegate and Lost Creek Lake dams. About 7 miles as planned, with not much change in elevation. You will see the construction site as it was abandoned, with a half finished dam and huge piles of materials, The road to the TH is not far past Shady Cove and is paved.
