Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sunscreen and rain gear as appropriate. December 1: Pilot Rock Road to Porcupine Mountain. Hike leader: Francie
TH: Take Mt Ashland exit 6 off I-5; follow old Highway 99 under the freeway for just a little over 2 miles; go left onto Pilot Rock Road and drive one mile to first crossing of PCT at the power line; EDT: 30 minutes. Description: Hike east on the PCT past Pilot Rock to the top of Porcupine Mountain; return via the trail and road. Distance: about 7.5 miles; elevation gain: about 2,000 ft. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 30 miles.

December 8: Lost Creek Lake (west shore) (p. 82 in 100 Hikes)
TH: Take Highway 62 to Lost Creek Lake and turn left onto Takelma Road at "Fish Hatchery" sign; drive past fish hatchery, power plant and dam to the turn to the boat ramp at 2.2 miles from Highway 62. Continue 0.4 miles to the boat ramp parking lot / TH. EDT: 75 minutes. Description: follow Lost Creek Lake trail to our usual lunch bench; return the same way Distance: 9.6 miles; elevation gain: about 1,000 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles.

December 15: Pederson Nordic Trail Snowshoe
TH: Take DIM to the PCT crossing / Pederson Sno-Park just past milepost 27. Sno-Park Permit required; passengers should help pay for it. EDT: 45 minutes. Description: Head north on the Pederson Nordic Trail for 2 miles to the Brown Mountain Shelter.  After lunch take the Hyatt / Lake of the Woods trail southwest about 1 mile to the Pederson snowmobile trail.  Follow the snowmobile trail back to DIM. Distance 5 miles; elev. gain: 500 feet. Fish Lake SNOTELWeather Forecast. RT mileage: 60 miles.

December 22: Summit Sno-Park Snowshoe
TH: Take Highway 62 to Highway 140; turn right & follow Highway 140 for 32.5 miles to the Summit Sno-Park. Sno-Park Permit required; passengers should help pay for it. EDT: 75 min. Description: Make a loop on the cross country ski trails; Up Lower Canal (J) for 1.3 miles, east on Big Mac (I) for 1.1 miles, right on Petunia for 2.1 miles back to the car. Distance: 4 miles; elevation gain: 500 feet. Billie Creek Divide SNOTEL. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 110 miles.

December 29: Snowshoe on Frank Hill Road from Liz's Hike leader: Francie
TH: We will carpool from Rite Aid up to Liz's house at 1400 Ashland Mine Road in Ashland. EDT: 15 minutes. Since the snow and road conditions have not been predictable, and I believe that we will have many snowshoe opportunities, I have decided to take Liz up on her offer to snowshoe from her house up Frank Hill.  I have not hiked in this area so I don't know the mileage or elevation.  Liz reports that we will get a good uphill workout on this trip.  We can do as much as 6 miles or less as needed or wanted.  We will keep the meet up time at 9:00 AM at Rite Aid.  Liz has offered to serve some hot cider when we return.  Weather forecast.
