Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sunscreen and rain gear as appropriate. December 1: Pilot Rock Road to Porcupine Mountain. Hike leader: Francie
TH: Take Mt Ashland exit 6 off I-5; follow old Highway 99 under the freeway for just a little over 2 miles; go left onto Pilot Rock Road and drive one mile to first crossing of PCT at the power line; EDT: 30 minutes. Description: Hike east on the PCT past Pilot Rock to the top of Porcupine Mountain; return via the trail and road. Distance: about 7.5 miles; elevation gain: about 2,000 ft. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 30 miles.

December 8: Lost Creek Lake (west shore) (p. 82 in 100 Hikes)
TH: Take Highway 62 to Lost Creek Lake and turn left onto Takelma Road at "Fish Hatchery" sign; drive past fish hatchery, power plant and dam to the turn to the boat ramp at 2.2 miles from Highway 62. Continue 0.4 miles to the boat ramp parking lot / TH. EDT: 75 minutes. Description: follow Lost Creek Lake trail to our usual lunch bench; return the same way Distance: 9.6 miles; elevation gain: about 1,000 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles.

December 15: High Lakes Trail (p. 122 in Hiking Southern Oregon)
TH: Left out of Rite Aid to a left on DIM for 21.6 miles to a left on NF-37 / Big Elk Road at Deadwood.  Up NF-37 for 7.6 miles to the TH by Little Butte Creek on the right at the North Fork Campground.  Leave the hikers here. Either use a shuttle car or position enough cars to return the hikers from the High Lakes TH to the North Fork Campground at the end of the hike. Shuttle car or cars continue up to Highway 140, then right for 7.1 miles to a right at the brown BROWN MTN. Trails sign. TrailheadAfter 0.2 mile continue straight for 0.3 mile to a left onto NF-3640 for 500’ to the parking area at the High Lakes TH. EDT: 1 hour.  After the hike, return to Ashland via the Westside Road / NF-3601 back to DIM. Description: Follow the trail along Little Butte Creek (part of the Medford Irrigation District) up to the dam and turn left onto the High Lakes Trail. Optional side trip to the Fish Lake SNOTEL approximately 200' off the trail near the dam. Follow the High Lakes trail past Fish Lake and across the Brown Mountain Lava flow back to the shuttle car. Distance: 9.3 miles; elevation gain 900'. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles.

December 22: Summit Sno-Park Snowshoe
TH: Take Highway 62 to Highway 140; turn right & follow Highway 140 for 32.5 miles to the Summit Sno-Park. Sno-Park Permit required; passengers should help pay for it. EDT: 75 min. Description: Make a loop on the cross country ski trails; Up Lower Canal (J) for 1.3 miles, east on Big Mac (I) for 1.1 miles, right on Petunia for 2.1 miles back to the car. Distance: 4 miles; elevation gain: 500 feet. Billie Creek Divide SNOTEL. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 110 miles.

December 29: East Applegate Ridge
TH: Head up I-5 to exit 24, Phoenix. Left into Phoenix and then right on OR-99. Turn left onto Stage Road then for left on Griffin Lane.  In about a mile turn right onto West Griffin Creek Road for 2.9 miles which becomes Poormans Creek Road for another 1.1 miles to a T junction and left onto Sterling Creek Road. Go 4 miles to the 4 mile marker and the trail is well marked 100 feet past the sign. The Trail is 5.5 miles long and can be a return trip or a turnaround earlier. 2,100 feet total ascent for return trip. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 70 miles
