Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen and rain gear. August 2: Parks Creek TH to Cement Bluff Leave at 8:00 AM.
TH: Drive south on I-5 and take Stewart Springs Road exit (about 1.5 miles after rest area across from Weed airport); turn right at stop sign, then left onto Stewart Springs Road; after 4 miles turn right onto Road 17 for 9.3 miles to the PCT crossing.
Description: Cross the road from the parking area and continue on the PCT for about 5 miles around a deep valley to a cliff overlooking Bluff Lake. Distance 10 miles. Mostly Level. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.

August 9: Greenstone TH to Anderson Ridge TH. Jack-Ash TrailLeave at 8:30 AM.
TH: I-5 to Phoenix Exit and left to Highway 99. Turn right and proceed to Stage Road and go left. Continue on Stage Road to the end and turn left at the T junction on Griffen Lane. Drive past the school and go straight past both Pioneer Road and Griffen Creek Road, continuing straight for about 2 miles until you see a left marked Griffen Creek Road (confusing but correct).  Left onto the paved Griffen Creek Road and it will soon turn into the paved Anderson Butte Road which continues about 5 miles up to 4,500 feet elevation. The pavement ends and there is a sign on the right marked Griffen TH. Continue straight on FS Rd 39-2-8. Do not go left on Anderson Butte Road. In one mile you will come to a big pile of dirt on the right and Greenstone TH markers across the road on the hill. EDT: 45 minutes. Description: The trail ascends through old growth forest to the ridge and along the ridge another 2 miles to Anderson Ridge TH. Distance 6.4 miles. Approximately 1,000 feet of climb.  Weather forecast. RT mileage: 50 miles.

August 16: Kangaroo Lake to Bull Lake Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Head South on I-5 to exit 766 (Gazelle). Turn left (south) on Highway 99 for 7 miles to Gazelle. Turn Right in Gazelle onto the Gazelle Callahan Highway. Drive 18 miles to left turn for Kangaroo Lake (clearly marked) on Rail Creek Road. The TH parking for Fen Trail is on the left in 6.8 miles, just before the main Kangaroo Lake Parking. The TH is just across the Road. EDT: 1:35. Description: Climb to the saddle beyond Kangaroo Lake and down a short distance to the PCT. Turn left on the PCT and follow it all the way to Bull Lake. Overlooks include entire marble mountains, Trinity Alps and Siskiyou mountains as well as Kangaroo Lake, Robber Meadows, Bull Lake, Shasta and Mount Eddy. Destination Elevation: 7,080 feet. Distance: 8 miles; Elevation Gain :1,200 feet. Total Ascent: 1,400 feet. Optional descent to Bull Lake adds 1 mile and roughly 300 feet of ascent. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.

August 23: Trapper Lake from the Cold Springs Trailhead/ Sky Lakes Wilderness (p 118 in 100 Hikes) Leave at 8:30 AM.
TH: Take DIM to 140, right (east) for 3.2 miles and then left (north) on FS 3651 for 10.1 miles to the TH at road end. EDT 75 minutes.  Description: Go up from Cold Springs TH go right at the T intersection, keep heading up trail 5 miles to Trapper Lake. Distance: 10 miles RT, elevation gain 1,000'.  Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 110 miles.

August 30: East Applegate Ridge: Leave at 8:30 AM. Rich is going to see his granddaughters, who wants to lead? 
TH: Head up I-5 to exit 24, Phoenix. Left into Phoenix and then right on OR-99. Turn left onto Stage Road then left on Griffin Lane.  In about a mile turn right onto West Griffin Creek Road for 2.9 miles which becomes Poorman’s Creek Road for another 1.1 miles to a T junction and left onto Sterling Creek Road. Go 4 miles to the 4 mile marker and the trail is well marked 100 feet past the sign. We will do an out and back of about 7.5 miles with about 800 feet of climb. Exceptional views. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 70 miles.
