2nd & 4th Friday Hikes for June 2021

Our Guidelines and Instructions:
Covid19 precautions: Fully vaccinated hikers; Masks handy for proximity to others; Carpooling by personal choice (share gas $); post-hike Refreshments outside.

Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 8:30 AM unless otherwise indicated in a specific hike description. Plan for a full day, unless remaining close to town. Hikes will be easy/light moderate (6-7 miles when at lower elevations and limited climbing; otherwise, closer to 5 miles). Easy pace. Stay together for shared safety and enjoyment.  Bring lunch, lots of liquids, sunscreen, bug repellent, hat). A pole or two, recommended. Feel free to bring a short poem or other form of inspiration to share at lunch, if you like.

Our Friday Hikes have 3 features (expectations): Moderate pace, Mutual support (by staying together), and Peaceful trail conversation focused on observations and information about our surroundings.

June 11:  Grizzly Peak
TH: Drive DIM (Indian Memorial Highway) 6½ miles; turn left on Shale City Road and follow Grizzly Peak Trail signs: 3 miles on pavement, 2 miles on dirt.  EDT: 30 minutes. Description: Hike through the woods with some uphill climbing, beautiful views, and arrive at the high point for lunch. Return same way. 5½ miles; elevation gain: 1,200 feet.  Weather forecast. RT mileage: 30 miles

June 25: Pilot Rock Road to Babbitt Gap RT
TH: Take Mt. Ashland exit 6 off I-5; follow old Hwy. 99 under the freeway 2.3 miles; go left on Pilot Rock Road, drive 1 mile to PCT crossing (Sky King Cole TH). High clearance vehicles highly recommended. EDT: 30 minutes. 
Hike Description: Walk along PCT past former Pilot Rock parking area and the spur trail to Pilot Rock; stay on the PCT to Babbitt Gap for lunch with spectacular view of Mt. Shasta, Mt. Eddy and Pilot Rock. Return the same way. Distance: 5.6 miles; elevation gain: 955 feet. Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: about 30 miles.
