Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen, insect repellent and rain gear as appropriate. In winter, bring layers. TH = trailhead; EDT = estimated drive time; RT = round trip mileage; PCT = Pacific Crest Trail; DIM = Dead Indian Memorial Highway.  Vaccination against COVID19 is required. June 4: PCT Across Brown Mountain
TH: Take Dead Indian Memorial Road 22 miles to Forest Service Road 37; go left on FS 37 8 miles to Highway 140; turn right (east) onto Highway 140; after 4.2 miles turn left into the Summit parking area; toilets available.  EDT: 60 min. Hike description: hike well-built trail thru forest and over basalt rock deposited by Brown Mountain lava flow to high point of trail; return same way. Distance: 5.8 miles RT; elevation gain: 550 feet. Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: 70 miles

June 11: Lower Rogue River Trail: Grave Creek to Whiskey Creek RT
TH: Take I-5 north to Merlin (Exit 60); drive thru Merlin and follow Galice Road 19 miles to far side of the Grave Creek bridge; turn left downhill to boat ramp and TH; EDT: 90 minutes
Description: Follow the north rim of the Rogue River canyon past Rainie Falls to Whiskey Creek; return the same way; spectacular scenery, but trail is a little rough in places.  If weather is warm, you need a lot of water on this one; be forewarned. Distance: 7 miles; elevation gain: 1,270 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 140 miles

June 18: Jack-Ash Trail - Greenstone to Anderson Ridge TH
TH:Take I-5 to Phoenix Exit and left to Highway 99. Turn right and proceed to Stage Road and go left. Continue on Stage Road to the end and turn left at the T junction on Griffen Lane. Drive past the school and go straight past both Pioneer Road and Griffen Creek Road, continuing straight for about 2 miles until you see a left marked Griffen Creek Road (confusing but correct).  Left onto the paved Griffen Creek Road and it will soon turn into the paved Anderson Butte Road which continues about 5 miles up to 4,500 feet elevation. The pavement ends and there is a sign on the right marked Griffen TH. Continue straight on FS Rd 39-2-8. Do not go left on Anderson Butte Road. In one mile you will come to a big pile of dirt on the right and Greenstone TH markers across the road on the hill. EDT: 45 minutes. Description: The trail ascends through old growth forest to the ridge and along the ridge another 2 miles to Anderson Ridge TH. Distance 6.4 miles. Approximately 1,100 feet of climb, 800 at the outset and a gradual 300 on the return. Weather forecast. RT Mileage 50 miles.

June 25: PCT between the Mt Ashland Ski Road and Highway 99 at Siskiyou Summit  
TH: Take I-5 south to Exit 6 and proceed south on Old Highway 99 for about 0.8 miles to the signed PCT crossing on the right to leave a shuttle car. Continue on Old 99 for another 0.1 miles to a right on the Mt. Ashland Ski Road and continue up the road to the PCT crossing just before the 7-mile marker. EDT: 30 minutes. Description: Go north along woodsy stretch of PCT down to Siskiyou Summit; there are occasional openings with views; mostly downhill with one steep uphill stretch. People with knee problems may want to avoid this hike, due to the long downhill stretches. Distance: 8 miles; elevation gain: around 300 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 40 miles.
