TH: Same TH as for Deadfall Lakes. South on I-5 and exit Stewart Springs Road 1 mile after Weed rest area (beside Weed Airport). Exit West (right) to stop sign then right again followed by a left onto Road 17 – Springs Road. After 4 miles you need to turn right to stay on 17 (not stay on the road you are on) and another 9 miles to the TH. Park at the TH for Deadfall Lakes on left, which has toilet facilities. Description: Cross the road from the parking and continue on the PCT for about 5 miles around a deep valley to a cliff overlooking Bluff Lake. Distance 10 miles. No meaningful ascent. July 9: Grizzly Peak
TH: Left on Highway 66 for 0.8 miles to a left onto Dead Indian Memorial Highway for 6.7 miles to a left onto Shale City Road and follow the Grizzly Peak Trail signs: 3 miles on pavement, 2 miles on dirt. EDT: 30 minutes. Description: great views over the Rogue Valley. Distance: 5 miles; elevation gain: 1,200 ft. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 30 miles.
July 16: Kangaroo Lake to Bull Lake Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Head South on I-5 to exit 766 (Gazelle). Turn left (south) on Highway 99 for 7 miles to Gazelle. Turn Right in Gazelle onto the Gazelle Callahan Highway. Drive 18 miles to left turn for Kangaroo Lake (clearly marked) on Rail Creek Road. The TH parking for Fen Trail is on the left in 6.8 miles, just before the main Kangaroo Lake Parking. The TH is just across the Road. EDT: 1:35. Description: Climb to the saddle beyond Kangaroo Lake and down a short distance to the PCT. Turn left on the PCT and follow it all the way to Bull Lake. Overlooks include entire marble mountains, Trinity Alps and Siskiyou mountains as well as Kangaroo Lake, Robber Meadows, Bull Lake, Shasta and Mount Eddy. Destination Elevation: 7,080 feet. Distance: 8 miles; Elevation Gain :1,200 feet. Total Ascent: 1,400 feet. Optional descent to Bull Lake adds 1 mile and roughly 300 feet of ascent. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.
July 25: Siskiyou Peak
TH: Take Mt. Ashland exit 6 off I-5; turn right on Mount Ashland Ski Road to the end of the ski area and the paved area, then turn left from NF-20 on the first dirt forest road and drop down ¼ mile to the PCT crossing which will be the TH. EDT: 35 minutes. Description: Follow the PCT 3.7 miles. Before the PCT starts to descend near the trail summit, turn left and walk up through the field and up further to the summit of Siskiyou Peak for lunch. Return same way. Hiking distance: 7.4 miles RT; elevation gain of 1,500 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 50 miles.
