September 7: Upper Rogue - Union Creek Gorge to Natural Bridge
TH: Drive up Highway 62 about 54 miles to a left just past Becky's into the parking area for Rogue River Gorge. Northwest Forest Pass or day pass required. EDT: 1:20. Description: View the Gorge from several viewpoints, then follow the fence to a trail that takes you down the Rogue past the confluence with Union Creek and on down to the Natural Bridge viewpoints. 8 miles down and back mostly level. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 140 miles
September 14: No hike due to Local Fire and Smoke
The Almeda fire and many others caused bad air quality and road closures in Oregon and California.
September 21: Upper Union Creek & Union Falls New Hike. Leave at 8:00 AM.
TH: Up Highway 62 to the Highway 62 / Highway 230 junction just past Becky's. Make a sharp right to stay on Highway 62 towards Crater Lake for 2 miles to a right on FS-600 at the sign for the Union Creek TH. Follow FS-600 for 0.3 miles to the circular parking area at the TH. EDT: 1:30. Description: Take the forest trail for 0.4 miles to Union falls at the junction with the Union Creek Trail #1035. Explore the trail downstream for about 1 1/2 miles. Return to the falls for lunch. 4 miles out and back mostly level. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.
September 28: East Applegate Ridge Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Head up I-5 to exit 24, Phoenix. Left into Phoenix and then right on OR-99. Turn left onto Stage Road then left on Griffin Lane. In about a mile turn right onto West Griffin Creek Road for 2.9 miles which becomes Poormans Creek Road for another 1.1 miles to a T junction and left onto Sterling Creek Road. Go 4 miles to the 4 mile marker and the trail is well marked 100 feet past the sign. Description: The Trail is 5.5 miles long and can be a return trip or a turnaround earlier. 2,100' total ascent for return trip. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 65 miles.
