Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen and rain gear. November 2: Kangaroo Lake to Bull Lake Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Head South on I-5 to exit 766 (Gazelle). Turn left (south) on Highway 99 for 7 miles to Gazelle. Turn Right in Gazelle onto the Gazelle Callahan Highway. Drive 18 miles to left turn for Kangaroo Lake (clearly marked) on Rail Creek Road. The TH parking for Fen Trail is on the left in 6.8 miles, just before the main Kangaroo Lake Parking. The TH is just across the Road. EDT: 1:35. Description: Climb to the saddle beyond Kangaroo Lake and down a short distance to the PCT. Turn left on the PCT and follow it all the way to Bull Lake. Overlooks include entire marble mountains, Trinity Alps and Siskiyou mountains as well as Kangaroo Lake, Robber Meadows, Bull Lake, Shasta and Mount Eddy. Destination Elevation: 7,080 feet. Distance: 8 miles; Elevation Gain :1,200 feet. Total Ascent: 1,400 feet. Optional descent to Bull Lake adds 1 mile and roughly 300 feet of ascent. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.
November 9: Reeder Reservoir - New local hike. Leave at 9:30 AM.
TH: Directions: Drive to the top of Morton Street and then left onto the Ashland Loop Road up to the parking area for the White Rabbit TH at the closed gate. EDT: 20 minutes. Description: Head up the White Rabbit trail for 1/4 mile to a right onto the Caterpillar Trail for 2 miles up and around to Lamb Saddle. Go past the left side of the sign board and head downhill to find the unmarked 0.8 mile trail down to Reeder Reservoir. 6.5 miles out and back with lots of deadfall on the trail down to the reservoir. 500' elevation gain. November 16: Enchanted Forest Tail 11-16-20
TH: Thru Jacksonville and take Highway 238 towards Applegate for 15 miles. Just before downtown Applegate and the bridge, make a right onto North Applegate Road for 4.5 miles to a right on Kubli Road for 400' and then right on Slagle Creek Road for 1.5 miles to the pavement end at the TH. EDT: 60 minutes. Description: New for Monday group: Stay on the Enchanted Forest Trail up to the top by the Twin Peaks and Sabin's Saddle. Six miles up and back, 1,568' gain. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 80 miles.
November 23: Fell on Knee Trail - New Monday hike. Leave at 9:30.
TH: Take Ashland Street to Siskiyou Boulevard to a left onto Church Street, then left onto Scenic Drive, right on Nutley, Left onto Alnut and right onto Strawberry Lane to a left onto Birdsong Lane and park on the street. EDT: 15 minutes. Description: Take the Birdsong Trail up to a Right on the Hitt Road Trail for 1.8 miles to a left for the lower Fell-on-Knee Trail Loop. 7+ miles with 1,400' gain. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 10 miles.
November 30: Buck Rock Tunnel New local hike. Leave at 9:30.
TH: From Rite Aid, take Highway 66 Nine miles to right on Buckhorn Springs Road then quick right up Emigrant Creek Road for two miles to the parking area on the left. EDT: 25 minutes. Description: Go around the gate across the road from the parking area and continue up the Buck Rock Trail. The first split off trail to the left takes you 2 miles up to the East portal of the tunnel project. Go out and up to the main trail for another 2 miles to the West portal for lunch. Back down the main trail to the parking area . 6+ mile loop with 800' gain. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 30 miles.
