Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen, insect repellent and rain gear. In winter, bring layers. April 10: CATHEDRAL HILLS TRAIL SYSTEM Hike Leader: Elisabeth Zinser
TH: Drive I-5 North from Ashland for 36 miles to Exit 55 for Highway 199 South, Redwood Highway. Follow Highway 199 to Highway 238 south east (6 miles). Follow Highway 238 for 2.8 miles to Espey Road, turn left onto Espey. Bear left at a neighborhood intersection and continue a short distance on Espey Road to the trailhead at the end. Description: This is a 10-mile trail system with alternative routes from easy to very difficult, over 400 acres of Douglas fir and ponderosa pine forests with views of the Rogue Valley and surrounding mountains, and many species of wildflowers in springtime. Distance: about 6 miles following loop/s marked black for “more difficult” (moderate). We may stop for late lunch or mid-day snack at a fun spot in Grants Pass (tbd). Minimal elevation gain. Wether forecast. RT mileage: 50 miles.
