February 4: Walk the Bear Creek Greenway Leave Rite Aid at 9:30 AM Hike Leader: Rich Stickle
Rich will navigate for us on a leisurely stroll along the Greenway to Valley View and down to El Tapatio restaurant on Highway 99 for lunch. We’ll take the bus back so bring a dollar for bus fare. Distance: 6 miles of relatively flat paved Greenway. Weather forecast.
February 11: Hike the Greenway from Phoenix to Medford
Meet at 9:30 A. M. at Rite Aid Hike Leader: Rich Stickle.
TH: Head north on I-5 to Exit 21, Talent. Left towards Talent and then right on Highway 99 for 2.3 miles to the Blue Heron Park on the right. EDT: 15 minutes. Description: Stroll the Bear Creek Greenway from Phoenix to Medford where we will have lunch at Bricktown Brewing before returning to Phoenix on the bus. Remember to bring lunch money and bus fare ($1.00 for people over 62, $2.00 for the kids). Distance: about 6 miles; elevation gain: about 300 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 30 miles.
February 18: Toothpick Trail to Oredson Todd Woods Leave Rite Aid at 9:30 AM Hike Leader: Rich Stickle
We’ll leave a shuttle car at Oredson Todd Woods parking area then drive up Tolman Creek Road a few miles to start our hike up the Toothpick trail. We’ll take the Caterpillar trail up to the 3,500 foot summit for lunch on the Queen of Hearts loop. Then down the White Rabbit trail to Oredson Todd woods and our shuttle. It will be a 1,200 ft climb and a 2,100 ft decent. Distance about 5 miles. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 20 miles.
February 25: Pederson Nordic Trail Snowshoe Leave Rite Aid at 9:30 AM
TH: Take DIM to the PCT crossing and Pederson Sno-Park just past milepost 27. Sno-Park Permit required; passengers should help pay for it. EDT: 45 minutes. Description: Head north on the Pederson Nordic Trail for 2 miles to the Brown Mountain Shelter. Distance 4.5 miles; elevation gain: 500 feet. Fish Lake SNOTEL. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 60 miles.
