2nd & 4th Friday Hikes for September 2019

Our Friday Hikes have 3 features (expectations): Moderate pace, Mutual support by staying together, and Peaceful trail conversation limited to observations and information about our surroundings.

Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street promptly at 8:00 AM in summer months, unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen, insect repellent and rain gear. TH = trailhead; EDT = estimated drive time; RT = round trip mileage; PCT = Pacific Crest Trail; DIM = Dead Indian Memorial Highway. 100 Hikes is 100 Hikes in Southern Oregon, 3rd edition

September 13: Little Pilot Peak and Soda Mountain: Hike Leader: Elisabeth Zinser
TH: Drive 14.5 miles up Highway 66 (Greensprings) to summit; turn right down Soda Mountain Road (a gravel road) for 3.8 miles to parking area (and PCT crossing). There is a toilet located there. Hike the PCT trail going South and take a left to climb to Soda Mountain.

Description: Moderate, 4.2 miles RT, elevation gain 810’. Lunch spot will be on Soda Mountain. Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: 40 miles.

September 27: Grizzly Peak: Hike Leaders Judy Holy and Elisabeth Zinser
TH: Drive DIM 7 miles and turn left on Shale City Road. At sign for Grizzly Peak TH, turn left and ascend to parking area.

Description: Hike 5½ mile loop trail, stopping for lunch at overlook for views of our Rogue Valley and beyond. Moderate. Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: 20 miles.
