Leave from the Rite Aid parking lot on Ashland Street at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sunscreen and rain gear as appropriate. TH = trailhead; EDT = estimated drive time; PCT = Pacific Crest Trail; DIM = Dead Indian Memorial Highway. 100 Hikes = 100 Hikes in Southern Oregon, Second Edition

July 4: No hike

July 11: Horse Camp Trail to Echo Lake (p. 121 in Favorite Hikes of the Applegate) Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: Past Applegate Lake to the T and left on Elliot Creek Road for 1.5 miles to the junction of FS 1040 and FS 1050. Hard right on FS 1040 then 3.9 miles to TH on left.  EDT: 1:35.  Description: A steady climb through a shaded deciduous and mixed conifer forest past the Butte Fork landslide, Horse Camp and on up to Echo Lake. This is a strenuous hike because of the elevation gain, but we all really like it and the payoff of getting to the lake is worth the effort of getting there. Distance: 9 miles; elevation gain 3,000 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 110 miles.

July 18: Mt McLoughlin (p. 110 in 100 Hikes) - Leave at 6:30 AM
TH: Take DIM to the end at Highway 140.  Turn left (west) onto 140 for 1.9 miles to Fourmile Lake Road (FS 3661), turn right towards Fourmile Lake for 2.9 mi; then turn left on FS 3650 for 0.2 mi to TH parking lot; EDT: 90 minutes. Description: We haven't done this since 2015 because of smoke; keep your fingers crossed. Up, up, up and more up all the way to the top; only the last 1.2 miles / 1,300 feet elevation gain portion is really steep. This is a demanding hike. Please bring enough water to stay hydrated (3+ liters). Hiking poles are useful on the descent of the upper mountain as we come down over the boulder field. Climbing to the summit is not mandatory, there are two nice lunch / turn around spots which make for a shorter hike.  Distance: 9.5 mi; elevation gain: 3,975 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: about 90 miles.

July 25: Canceled - Smoke
