July 2 – Taylor Creek. Leave 8:30 AM
TH: North on I-5 to Merlin Exit 61 just after Grants Pass. Turn left and go 12.2 miles to a left turn for Briggs Valley Road / Taylor Creek Road / NF-25 which is 1/2 mile past milepost 8. Head up NF-25 for about 3 miles and leave a shuttle car at English Flat which is the first trailhead just beyond the gorge overlook. Drive about 9 more miles up NF-25 to Lone Tree Pass Trailhead on the left which is clearly marked at Road 2509 junction. Description: This 7.2 mile hike follows Taylor Creek from south to north as it descends to the Illinois valley. Elevation loss 1,100 feet but ups and downs along the way with some hills to climb. Estimated drive time: 1 hour 20 minutes. Weather forecast. RT mileage 140 miles.

TH: From Talent on Highway 99 take a left on Rapp Road and follow Rapp which turns into Wagner Creek Road for 8 miles to a left to remain on Wagner Creek Road which becomes Wagner Gap Road / FS-22. Continue on another 10 miles (18 miles total from the turn off of Highway 99) to the junction with FS-20. Right on FS-20 for 0.8 miles to the Siskiyou Gap TH and parking in the clearing on the right. Description: The PCT winds around Big Red Mountain through cool woods and along some cliffs with a good trail. Lots of views. Near the high point before the trail heads down, turn left on a gentle slope through fields to the top of Big Red Mountain. Lunch on rocks with 360 degree view after touring the summit. Distance 6 miles. Elevation gain 1,200 feet. Weather forecast. Driving Mileage: 60 miles.

July 16: Deadfall Lakes (Mt Eddy) RT (p. 226 in 100 Hikes)—Leave 8:30 AM
TH: Drive south on I-5 and take Stewart Springs Road exit (about 1.5 miles after rest area at Weed airport); turn right at stop sign, then left onto Stewart Springs Road; after 4 miles turn right onto Road 17 for 9.3 miles to the PCT crossing. Description: Walk uphill 3 miles along PCT to Middle Deadfall Lake; continue uphill another 1.5 miles to Upper Deadfall Lake. Continue up to the ridge.
Distance: 9.1 miles; elevation gain: 1,400'; Weather forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles
July 23: East Boulder Lake - (p. 232 in 100 Hikes) Leave at 8:00 AM
TH: South on I-5 to Yreka Exit 773 and take Highway 3 for 39 miles through Fort Jones and Etna to Callahan. Right in Callahan (behind the Emporium Saloon) on South Fork Road for 0.7 miles then straight on McKeen Road (40N17) for 2.3 miles to the McKeen Divide. Left (SE) on 39N63 (Boulder) for 2.9 miles, left on 39N10 for 1.2 miles. EDT: 1:45. Beautiful hike in the Scott Mountains of the Trinity Alps Wilderness past East Boulder Lake and several smaller alpine lakes / ponds up to the ridge with views of Craggy Peak, Mt. Shasta, Mt. Eddy, Scott Valley and the Russian Wilderness. Distance: 9.1 miles. Elevation Gain: 1,700 feet. Climbing: 2,600'. Max elevation: 7,235 feet. There is an option to do just East Boulder Lake and the Upper Lakes for 1,500 feet vertical and 7 miles. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 170 miles.
July 30: Grouse Gap to Siskiyou Peak

TH: Take Mt. Ashland exit 6 off I-5; Follow Mount Ashland Ski Road towards Grouse Gap. Instead of turning left to the shelter, park the cars and use the PCT route up to Siskiyou Peak. Before the PCT starts to descend near the summit, turn left through the field and up to the summit. Fabulous views for lunch. Moderate hike. Weather forecast. Return driving mileage 50 miles.
