July 6: Wards Fork Gap to Buckhorn Springs Meet at 8:00 AM
TH: Through Jacksonville to a left in Ruch towards Applegate Lake. Just past the now shuttered Country Club cross the bridge and make a left on Beaver Creek Road / NF-20 for 14 miles to Silver Fork Gap. Take the road at 11 o'clock which is NF-2025 for 6.7 miles to NF-48N16 and continue on 1.5 miles to Wards Fork Gap. EDT: 2 hours. Description: Richard suggested this hike for its spectacular views. However, the one time we tried it, back in October 2014, it was a miserable cold, foggy and windy day. But, we expect much better weather in July. Head southwest on the PCT with great views of Scraggy Mountain and Condrey Mountain. Lunch on the ridge above Buckhorn Springs and then return on NF-40S01 (which parallels the trail but with new and different views to the east) to its intersection with the PCT. Distance: 10.5 miles. Elevation gain: 2,000 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 110 miles.
July 13: Seven Lakes Loop (p. 106 in 100 Hikes) Meet at 8:00 AM. TH: Up I-5 to Highway 62 in Medford. Up Highway 62 for 14. 6 miles to the Butte Falls Road. Into Butte Falls and then right on Laurel Avenue for 0.2 miles and then left onto the Butte Falls Fish Lake road for 0.6 miles. Left on the Butte Falls Prospect Road for 8.8 miles and Right on Lodgepole Road 34 for 8.5 miles. Straight on 37 for 0.4 miles and then veer right onto gravel Road 3780 for 4.1 miles to the TH. EDT 2 hours. Description: Nice loop through the woods past lakes and ponds with lunch atop a ridge overlooking the Seven Lakes Basin. Distance: 10 miles; climbing: 2,000'. Weather Forecast. July 20: PCT from Siskiyou Gap to Wrangle Gap
TH: From Talent take Rapp Road and Wagner Creek Road 7.6 mi to the junction with FS 22; follow FS 22 to junction with FS 20; follow FS 20 for 1/2 mile west to PCT crossing at Siskiyou Gap. Description: Follow the PCT west around Big Red to Wrangle Gap. Summit Big Red for lunch and then return east along the ridge with a short bushwhack back to the PCT. Distance 7 miles, 2,000' of climbing. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 50 miles.
July 27:Hidden Valley - Mt. Shasta Meet at 8:00 AM
TH: Take the first Mt. Shasta Exit (mile 740). East on Mt. Shasta Blvd. to the first left and then right on Ski Village Drive over to a left onto Everitt Memorial Highway up to Bunny Flat. EDT: 90 min; Description: Sabin requested putting this one back on the schedule so that he can recover the missing radio from 2014. Hike up to Horse Camp and the Sierra Club lodge to pick up the Mt. Shasta Circumnavigation Trail. From there head up sandy forested slopes to the pinnacle overlooking Hidden Valley and the high mountain grandeur of Shasta and Shastina. Poles are useful on this hike because much of the trail above Horse Camp is over boulders and scree. 6 miles, 2,300 feet of climbing. Weather forecast. RT mileage 180 miles.
