January 6: Fish Lake Trail - Snowshoe Trip
TH: take Highway 62 to Highway 140; turn right & follow Highway 140 to Fish Lake resort turnoff; Park in Fish Lake Sno-Park Sno-Park permit required. EDT: 60 minutes;
Description: take Fish Lake trail to its junction with Lollipop trail just past the Fish Lake Resort; Make a loop using the Peppermint, Candy Cain and Lollipop trails. Distance: 5.5 miles RT; elevation gain: 700 feet. Fish Lake SNOTEL. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 110 miles
January 13: Stewart State Park Boat Launch to Needle Rock
TH: Take Crater Lake Highway / SR62 for 33 miles to Stewart State Park. Follow signs to boat launch area and park. EDT: 1 hour. Description: follow trail along lake to the bridge over the Rogue. Cross the river and then left for a bit on Lewis Road and then up to Needle Rock for lunch. Watch for falling boulders. Return the same way. Distance: 9 miles; elevation gain about 1,000 feet. January 20: Ostrich Peak Loop
TH: park at gate about 100 yards up Hitt Road, off Strawberry Lane.
Description: Full loop going counterclockwise around Ostrich Peak; exact route varies from year to year; snow is possible on higher sections of trail.
Distance: 8 miles RT; total elevation gain: 2,250 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 3 miles.
January 27: Summit Sno-Park Snowshoe
TH: Take Highway 62 to Highway 140; turn right & follow Highway 140 for 32.5 miles to the Summit Sno-Park. Sno-Park Permit required; passengers should help pay for it. EDT: 75 min. Description: Make a loop on the cross country ski trails; Up Lower Canal (J) for 1.3 miles, east on Big Mac (I) for 1.1 miles, right on Petunia for 2.1 miles back to the car. Distance: 4.5 miles; elevation gain: 500 feet. Billie Creek Divide SNOTEL. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 110 miles.
