Leave from the former Haggen’s parking lot in Ashland promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen and rain gear. February 1: Applegate Lake: RT on Payette Tr starting at Manzanita TH  (p. 157 in 100 Hikes
TH: Take Hwy 238 from Jacksonville to Ruch (8 mi); turn left onto Upper Applegate Rd and drive to Swayne Point just past the Applegate Dam for a pit stop; then continue on Upper Applegate Rd to its end and turn left onto Elliot Creek Rd for 1 mi; then turn left again onto Manzanita Creek Rd and drive to the TH at the end of the road.  EDT: 75 min
Description: Walk along the shore of Applegate Lake 3.5 miles to Hank’s Point for lunch; after lunch trace our steps to the TH.  Most of the elevation gain is at the very beginning of the hike.
Distance: 7 mi; elevation gain: about 500 ft. Weather forecaast. RT mileage: 100 mi

February 8: Snowshoe trip: Mt Ashland Ski Area to Grouse Gap RT
TH: Closed gate on FS Rd 20, just beyond Mt Ashland Ski Area parking; Sno pass required for drivers. EDT: 30 min.
Description: follow road (Forest Service 20) to Grouse Gap; turn left to shelter for lunch; return same way.
Distance: 5 mi.; elev. gain: around 500 ft. Big Red SNOTEL. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 35 mi.

February 15: Sterling Mine Ditch Trail: Bear Gulch TH to junction with Wolf Gap trail (100 Hikes, p. 152)
TH: Follow route 238 thru Jacksonville to Ruch; turn left onto Upper Applegate Rd 2.9 miles; turn left on Little Applegate Rd 9 mi to Bear Gulch TH.  EDT: 75 min
Description: Climb up to the Ditch, then turn left and follow the Ditch trail to the junction with the trail from Wolf Gap and possibly beyond; return the same way
Distance: 7-8 miles; elev gain: 800 ft. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 70 mi

February 22: Snowshoe trip: Moon Prairie
TH: Take DIM 22 mi, turn left onto FS 37, and park in the Deadwood Nordic area; Sno pass required for drivers.  EDT: 45 min.
Description: Cross DIM and follow orange trail markers south on Moon Prairie Rd.  At 1.2 mi take the right fork at an intersection and go uphill to BLM road 38-40-7.  Turn left onto this road, and left again at the next intersection, then  follow Moon Prairie Rd north 2.2 miles to back to TH. 
Distance: 5.4 miles; elev gain: 250 ft. Howard Prairie SNOTEL. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 50 miles

February 29: Jacksonville Forest Park (new hike for Monday group)
TH: From the 4-way stop in Jacksonville continue 0.8 miles on Highway 238 and make a right onto Reservoir Road; continue on Reservoir Road for approximately 0.8 miles to the trailhead parking area on the right.  EDT: 45 minutes.
Description: Mostly a walk in the woods, although we do break out into a clearing with a shelter, bench, and good views over the mountains.  Trail system is confusing, but maps are available at the trailhead to help fuel our debates over which way to go.
Distance: 6 miles; elev. gain: 1,000 ft. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 40 miles.
