Wednesday Hike Schedule for June 2015

Leave from the Haggen's parking lot in Ashland at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sunscreen and rain gear as appropriate. June 3: PCT from Old 99 to Pilot Rock. 
TH: Take I-5 to the Mt. Ashland exit.  Proceed under I-5 to the PCT crossing. EDT: 30 min.  Description: follow the PCT towards Pilot Rock and return the same way.  Climbing Pilot Rock is optional and weather dependent. Distance 9 miles; climbing 1,500 feet (add 500 feet for a successful Pilot Rock summit). Weather forecast. RT mileage: 30 miles

June 10: Cameron Meadows / Frog Pond Loop (p. 152 in 100 Hikes) Leave Haggen's at 8:00 AM
TH: Take Hwy 238 from Jacksonville 8 miles to Ruch; turn left onto Upper Applegate Road for 19 miles past Applegate Lake; turn left onto Elliot Creek Road for 1.3 miles to the junction of FS 1040 and FS 1050. Sharp right onto FS 1040 for 9.7 miles to the Cameron Meadows TH on the left. Leave a shuttle car here and then proceed another 2 miles to the Frog Pond TH, parking just before the Frog Creek ford. EDT 90 minutes. Description: You may have heard about this hike, or read about it, and now you can do it. On previous hikes we have been surprised by late season snow which shouldn't be a problem this year. From the TH head uphill 2,000' on the Frog Pond trail to a lunch spot in Cameron Meadows. After lunch complete the loop by heading down the Cameron Meadow trail. Distance 6 miles; 2,000' elevation change. Weather Forecast. RT mileage 110 miles.

June 17: Azalea Lake Pass above Azalea Lake (Red Buttes Wilderness - p. 154 in 100 Hikes) Leave Haggen's at 8:00 AM Hike Leader: Lynn Clegg
TH: Go past the Applegate store, cross the bridge and head south on Thompson Creek Road for 11.9 miles to a left on Carberry Creek Road. Go 2.8 miles to the second right onto NF 1030. After crossing bridge make an immediate left and go 5.1 miles to a left onto NF 400. After 4.7 miles on NF 400 bear right at the fork and then continue left in 1/2 mile (i.e. do not go up NF 850) to the TH. EDT: 2 hours. Description: We are going to take a look at what the Fort Complex fires did to this area last summer. Distance 10 miles; elevation gain: 2,000'. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 120 miles.

June 24: Fourmile Lake to Long Lake (p.116 in 100 Hikes) Hike Leader: Keeley Kirkendal
TH: Take DIM to Highway 140. Turn left towards Medford for 2.1 miles to a right on FS 3661 for 5.7 miles to the Fourmile Lake Campground. Park at the official trailhead turnaround point. EDT 60 minutes. Description: Enjoy a spring walk along the lakes in the Sky Lakes Wilderness to a lunch spot on Long Lake. Good views of the lakes and Mt. McLoughlin. Distance 8 miles; climbing 700'. Weather forecast. RT mileage 100 miles.
