February 4: Kerby Peak Leaving Safeway at 8:00 AM
TH:
Up to Grants Pass and then west on Highway 199 to Selma. In Selma left on Deer Creek Road for 9 miles, right on White Creek Road for 0.5 miles and then left at the Kerby Peak Trail sign on East White Creek Road for 3 miles to the TH. EDT: 90 minutes. Description: Beautiful but steep climb through an old growth forest up to the ridge and then a fairly gentle walk along the ridge up to Kerby Peak. Distance 6 miles; Elevation delta: 2,800 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.
February 11: Porcupine Gap to Soda Mountain Lookout (p. 130 in 100 Hikes) Leaving Safeway at 8:30. TH: Take Mt. Ashland exit 6 off I-5; follow old Highway 99 under the freeway for a little over 2 miles; go left on Pilot Rock Road, drive about 2 miles to the old quarry; bear left (downhill) for an additional 1.8 miles to the PCT access at Porcupine Gap. EDT: 45 minutes. Description: Since the road to Porcupine Gap has been improved we thought we would give this hike another try. Hike northeast along the PCT making a short side trip to Little Pilot Peak to enjoy the views. The final mile up to the Soda Mountain Lookout is off the PCT and uphill about 500 feet on a combination of an old Jeep road and through open woods and meadow. Great views from the lookout coupled with outstanding voice and data service. Distance: 10 miles; elevation gain: 1,800 feet. Weather Forecast. RT driving mileage: 40 miles.
February 18: PCT - Castle Crags - North from Dog Creek to Sabin's Point Leaving Safeway at 8:00. TH: Head south on I-5 to the Castle Crags exit (724). Right on Castle Creek Road for 3.3 miles to the Dog Creek TH on the right at an old mine. EDT: 90 minutes. Description: Take the 4W18 spur trail 0.7 mile to its junction with the PCT. Left on the PCT and head north on the shoulder of Castle Crags above the North Fork of Castle Creek to Sabin's Point for lunch. Great views of the Craigs and the canyon. Poles are useful on this hike. Distance: 10 miles. Elevation delta: 1,920'. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 180 miles.
February 25: High Lakes Trail from Fish Lake to Lake of the Woods (p. 122 in 101

TH: Take DIM to the Lake of the Woods Resort and drop the shuttle car. Then up to Highway 140 and west for 5.9 miles to the Fish Lake Resort. Park in the Fish Lake Sno-Park. Although they probably won't be checking, a Sno-Park permit may be useful. EDT: 60 minutes.
Hike from Fish Lake eastward over Brown Mountain to the Lake of the Woods Resort.
