Leave from Haggen's's parking lot in Ashland promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen and rain gear. August 3: High Lakes Trail from Aspen Point to Summit Sno Park (100 Hikes, p. 128)
TH: Drive DIM 22 miles to FS 37; turn left 8 miles to Hwy 140; turn right 5 miles to Summit Sno-Park and leave shuttle car; drive Hwy. 140 to Aspen Point.  EDT: 90 min.
Description: walk thru woods along Lake of the Woods to PCT crossing; turn right (north) onto PCT; cross Hwy. 140; continue on PCT to Summit Sno Park.
Distance: 7 miles; elevation gain: 500 ft.  Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: 80 miles

August 10: PCT: Big Red Mountain RT; leader: John Kerr
TH: In Talent, turn left on Rapp Rd; continue until the intersection of FS 22 and FS 20 on the Siskiyou Crest. Turn right 1 rough mile to PCT crossing. EDT: 60 min.
Description: Follow PCT around Big Red Mt thru cool woods and over serpentine barrens then turn left up a gentle hill to a 360 degree viewpoint for lunch. Moderate difficulty hike with about 3 1/2 hours total hiking and 1/2 hour for lunch at the viewpoint. Outstanding scenery on the way up. High altitude, so not too hot.
Distance: 7.5 miles; elev. gain: 1000 feet. Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: 60 miles

August 17: PCT: Grouse Gap to Siskiyou Peak RT: leader: John Kerr
TH: Leave I-5 at exit 6 and take Mt. Ashland Hwy. to ski area, then drive another 2 miles on FS 20 to PCT at Grouse Gap.   EDT: 45 min
Description: follow PCT 2.7 miles to Siskiyou Peak for lunch; return the same way. Distance: 5.4 miles; elevation gain: 1050 feet; Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: 45 miles.

August 24: PCT: Observation Gap to Wrangle Gap RT Leaving Haggen's at 8:30 AM
TH: Drive thru Jacksonville to Ruch; turn left onto Upper Applegate Rd for 9.5 miles, then left onto Beaver Creek Rd (FS Rd 20) and continue some 20 miles to the top of the Siskiyou crest, just  below Dutchman’s Peak; go right 0.5 mi to TH.  EDT: 90 minutes
Description: follow PCT north (towards Mt Ashland) to Wrangle Gap; cross FS 20 and find a convenient lunch spot below Big Red Mt; return the same way.
Distance: 7 mi; elevation gain: < 1000 feet; Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: TBD (via odometer)

August 31: PCT: Brown Mountain Lava Flow RT (100 Hikes, p. 130)
TH: Take Dead Indian Memorial Rd 22 miles to Forest Service Road 37; go left on FS 37 8 miles to Hwy. 140; turn right (east) onto Hwy. 140; after 4.2 miles turn left into the Summit parking area (this turn is into Klamath Co.); toilets available.
Estimated drive time to trailhead: 60 min.
Hike description: hike well-built trail thru forest and over basalt rock deposited by Brown Mt. lava flow to high point of trail; return same way.
Distance: 5.8 miles RT; elevation gain: 550 feet. Weather forecast. RT driving mileage 70.
