July 2:South Fork of the Rogue River- Upper Segment (p. 110 in 100 Hikes) Meet at 8:30
TH:Take DIM to Highway 37. North on Highway 37 to 140. East on 140 for 1,000' to County Road 821 (Butte Falls Fish Lake Road). Up Butte Falls Fish Lake Road for 9.1 miles then right on NF-3065 (Parker Meadows Road) for 5.7 miles to NF-37. Straight on NF-37 for 6.3 miles to the Upper TH at the bridge. Drop shuttle car here and continue on NF-37 for 5.5 miles to Lodgepole Road. Left 120 yards to the Middle TH. EDT: 90 minutes. Description: Head south along the South Fork of the Rogue River through big trees and wildflowers. Distance 6 miles; elevation gain: about 500 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 120 miles.
July 9: Wagner Butte (p. 140 in 100 Hikes) Meet at 8:00 AM.
TH: From Talent make a left onto Rapp Road and continue on to Wagner Creek Road. From the start of gravel continue 2.3 miles to a left to stay on Wagner Creek Road. Continue another 3.6 miles, making a left after crossing the cattle grate, to the TH. EDT: 45 minutes.
Description: uphill most of the way, but great flower displays and spectacular panoramic views from the top.
Distance: 10.4 miles RT; elevation gain: 2200 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 40 miles.
July 16:Mt Eddy (opposite Mt Shasta in California) (p. 210 in 100 Hikes) - Meet 8:00 AM. Hike leader: Jim Wayman
TH: Drive south on I-5 and take Stewart Springs Road exit (about 1.5 miles after passing rest area next to Weed); turn right at both stop signs, then left onto Stewart Springs Road; after 4 miles, turn right onto Road 17 for 9.3 miles past the"upper TH" at the PCT crossing; continue 1.3 miles to the hairpin curve; park on the right side and cross the road to the Deadfall Meadow sign and the TH. EDT: 105 minutes. Description: Wildflower heaven, inviting lakes, spectacular views of Mt Shasta; alternate turn around point is the ridge top before the long, barren slog to the summit. Distance: 8 miles; elevation gain to summit 2,730 feet, to ridge 1,600 ft. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 165 miles.
Jul 23: Summit and Campbell Lakes in the Marble Mountains (p. 83 in Best Hikes of the Marble Mountain and Russian Wilderness Areas) New Hike - Meet at 8:00 AM. Hike Leader Lynn Clegg.
TH: Down I-5 to Exit 773, the South Yreka exit and take Highway 3 to Fort Jones. Right on the Scott River Road for 7.1 miles to a left on Quartz ValleyRoad for 4.0 miles. Right at the sign for Shackleford Trail on 43N21 for 7.3 miles to the TH (the final 1/2 mile is rough). EDT: 90 minutes. Description: Visit some of the Marble's largest and most scenic lakes. Follow Shackleford Creek for 5 miles to Summit Lake and then continue around on the loop trail visiting Summit Meadow Lake, Campbell Lake. Distance: 10 miles; Climbing: 1,900'. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 150 miles.
July 30: Siskiyou Gap to Siskiyou Peak - New Hike?
TH: From Talent take Rapp Road and Wagner Creek Road for 8 miles to a left to remain on Wagner Creek Road. Continue on 9.8 miles to FS 20 and make a right for 0.8 miles to the PCT crossing at the Big Red TH parking area. Description: We haven't been on this section of the PCT in years. So, time to try it again. Nice views to the south on the trail coupled with 360o views from the top of Siskiyou Peak. Distance: 8 miles; Elevation gain 1,400' Weather forecast. RT mileage: 50 miles.
