Leave from Safeway parking lot in Ashland promptly at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sun-screen and rain gear. January 3: Toothpick, Catwalk, and Lamb’s Mine (above Ashland)
TH: Take Tolman Creek Road 3.1 miles to Toothpick TH; watch out for potholes along the way. EDT: 20 min.
Description: Start out on the Toothpick trail, then make a left onto the Catwalk and climb steadily uphill to its end; turn right onto Ashland Loop Rd. and follow it downhill to Lamb’s Mine TH; hike to end of Lamb’s Mine trail for lunch; return to our vehicles on the Toothpick trail.
Distance: 5.5 miles; elev. gain: 1000 ft. Weather forecast. RT driving mileage: 15 miles.

January 10: Sterling Mine Ditch Trail (Tunnel Ridge-Bear Gulch loop) (100 Hikes, p. 152)
TH: Follow route 238 thru Jacksonville to Ruch; turn left onto Upper Applegate Rd 2.9 miles; turn left on Little Applegate Rd 9.7 mi to Tunnel Ridge TH; EDT: 75 min Description: Climb up to the Ditch, then turn left and follow the Ditch trail to the Bear Gulch trail; turn left again and descend to the Bear Gulch TH; turn left and walk along the road about 0.5 miles to starting point
Distance: 5 miles; elev gain: 800 ft. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 70 mi

January 17: Viewpoint Mike (near Lost Creek Lake) (100 Hikes, p. 241)
TH: From Medford drive Hwy 62 past the turn off to the Lost Creek Lake fish hatchery and take the next right into the TH parking area;  EDT: 60 min. Description: very nicely laid out trail parallels Hwy 62 as it climbs through varied terrain to a large rock outcrop with good views of the surrounding area.
Distance: 5 miles RT; elevation gain: 1000 feet. Weather forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles

January 24: Little Grayback Trail (Applegate Valley)
TH: From Ruch travel south on Upper Applegate Rd to Applegate Dam; follow the road across the dam for 1.5 mi; turn left for 2 mi to French Gulch divide TH. EDT: 60 min.
Description: steady climb across the southern slopes of Little Grayback Mt toward Squaw Peak; return the same way; watch out for graybacks (ticks).
Distance: 8 miles; elev gain: about 1500 ft; Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 85 miles

January 31: Da-Ku-Be-Te-De Trail (Applegate Lake) (p. 158 in 100 Hikes)
TH: Take Hwy 238 from Jacksonville area to Ruch (8 mi); turn left onto Upper Applegate Rd and drive16 mi to Swayne Viewpoint, one mile past Applegate Lake dam.  EDT: 75 min
Description: Walk some 3.5 miles along the north shore of Applegate Lake to the Copper boat ramp (directly opposite the Manzanita TH on the south shore, where we started the March 15 hike); retrace our incoming route after lunch.
Distance: 7 miles RT; elevation gain: unknown—generally level, with undulations. Weather forecaast. RT mileage: 100 miles
