November 6: Upper Rogue: Hersberger Bridge to Union Creek - Meet at 8:30 AM. TH: Take Highway 62 East from Medford towards Crater Lake; on the way, leave a shuttle car at the Union Creek campground. At the Highway 62 / Highway 230 junction continue straight on Highway 230 for 0.9 miles to the first left on Hersberger Road, cross the Rogue River and proceed 0.6 mile to the TH on Hersberger Road. EDT: 90 minutes. Description: Take the Rogue River Trail (1034) down the North and West side of the Rogue River to the Footbridge. Cross the Rogue and head upriver to Union Creek. Lots of big old trees on this hike. We will be fording Flat Creek, but the water level should be low. Distance: 8 miles; elevation gain: mostly downhill with small ups and downs. Weather Forecast. November 13:Applegate Lake Payette Trail (p. 147 in 100 Hikes) TH: Take Highway 238 from Jacksonville area to Ruch (8 miles); take Upper Applegate Road 15 miles to Applegate Dam; drive left across dam to French Gulch TH (1.2 miles) and leave shuttle car. Return to Upper Applegate Road and continue south to T. Left on Elliot Creek Road for 0.9 miles. Just past the bridge make a left at the Seattle Bar day use area and follow the road around until it ends at the Manzanita Trailhead; EDT: 70 minutes Description: Take the Payette Trail northward as it follows the Applegate Lake shore back to the French Gulch TH. Enjoy the views from Hank's Point and Hal's Point. Distance: 8.5 miles; elevation gain: about 500 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles
November 20: PCT from Greensprings Summit to Hobart Bluff (p. 130 in 101 Hikes) TH: Drive Highway 66 14.5 miles to PCT crossing at Greensprings Summit. EDT: 45 minutes. Description: Follow the PCT for 3.3 miles through the woods and along the crest to the "Hobart Bluff Viewpoint" sign; turn right 0.3 miles to top of bluff; enjoy 360 degree views and lunch before returning the same way. Distance: 7+ miles; elevation gain: 2,000 feet of climbing; Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 35 miles.
November 27: Stewart State Park Boat Launch to Needle Rock - Hike leader: Margita LaGrotta. TH: Take Crater Lake Highway / SR62 for 33 miles to Stewart State Park. Follow signs to boat launch area and park. EDT: 1 hour. Description: follow trail along lake to the bridge over the Rogue. Cross the river and then left for a bit on Lewis Road and then up to Needle Rock for lunch. Watch for falling boulders. Return the same way. Distance: 9 miles; elevation gain about 1,000 feet.
