Wednesday Hike Schedule for February 2013

Leave from the Safeway parking lot in Ashland at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sunscreen and rain gear as appropriate. February 6: Little Grayback Trail
TH: From Ruch travel south on Upper Applegate Road to Applegate Dam; follow the road across the dam for 1.5 miles; turn left for 2 miles to the French Gulch divide TH; EDT: 60 min. Description: steady climb across the southern slopes of Little Grayback toward Squaw Peak; return the same way; watch out for graybacks (ticks) Distance: 8 miles; Elevation change 1,100 feet. Depending on the weather and the group we may add an optional extension to Squaw Peak which adds 3 miles and 500'. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 90 miles

February 13: Lake of the Woods Snowshoe
TH: Follow DIM to the Great Meadow Sno-Park at the intersection of DIM and Hwy 140. Sno-Park Permit Required; EDT: 75 minutes. Description: Follow the trail or go across the Great Meadow to Lake of the Woods. Work your way around the top of Lake of the Woods to Camp McLoughlin for lunch. Distance: 6 miles; elev. gain: 200 feet. Billie Creek Divide SNOTEL. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 85 miles.

February 20: Collings Mountain (above Applegate Reservoir) (p.146 in 100 Hikes).
TH: Proceed through Jacksonville on Highway 238 to Ruch. Left on Upper Applegate Road for 16 miles to the Hart-Tish TH where we drop the shuttle car; park on the west side of the road by the guardrail. Continue south along the lake for another 2.5 miles to the Watkins TH. EDT: 75 minutes. Description: woodsy trail with excellent views. Distance: 7 miles; climbing: 2,500 feet. Weather Forecast. February 27: Moon Prairie Snowshoe - New snowshoe.
TH: Follow DIM 22 miles to the Deadwood Sno-Park (junction with FS Road 37); Sno-Park Permit required. EDT: 45 minutes; Description: The Friday group tried this one recently and really enjoyed it. Cross DIM from the Sno-Park and head south along Moon Prairie Road. Do the loop in a clockwise direction. Distance: 5.4 miles; climbing: 300 feet. Howard Prairie SNOTEL. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 50 miles
