March 7: Summit Sno-Park Snowshoe
TH: Follow DIM to its end at Highway 140. Left on 140 for 5.2 miles to the Summit Sno-Park; Sno-Park Permit Required. EDT: 75 min. Description: Make a loop on the cross country ski trails; Up Lower Canal (J) for 1.3 miles, east on Big Mac (I) for 1.3 miles, clockwise on McLoughlin (F) for 2.5 miles and back to the car on Petunia (H) for 0.7 miles. Distance: 5.8 miles; elevation gain: 800 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles.
March 14: Lake of the Woods/High Lakes Trail Snowshoe
TH: Follow DIM to the Great Meadow Sno-Park at the intersection of DIM and Hwy 140. Sno-Park Permit Required; EDT: 75 minutes.
Description: Follow the trail across the Great Meadow to Lake of the Woods, then turn right and follow the High Lakes Trail a reasonable distance before stopping for lunch; return the same way.
Distance: 6 miles; elev. gain: 200 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 85 miles
March 21: Snowshoe trip - Mt Ashland Ski Area to Grouse Gap TH: Closed gate on FS Rd 20, just beyond Mt Ashland Ski Area parking; Sno Park permit required for drivers; passengers should help pay for it. EDT: 30 minutes. Description: follow lower road about 2 miles before turning up towards the Grouse Gap shelter for lunch. Last year we turned up just a bit early - let't try and find the direct route this year. After lunch, return via the level road. Distance: 5 mi; elev. gain: around 500 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 40 miles
March 28: Rogue River Trail, northeast from Peyton Bridge (p.79 in 100 Hikes) TH: From Medford drive 35.5 miles on Highway 62; turn left on Lewis Road to Peyton Bridge TH parking area (east end of Lost Creek Lake); EDT: 60 minutes Description: Follow trail along north shore of Rogue River some 3.5 miles; return same way; substantial ups and downs. Needle Rock is optional, depending on group interest. Distance: about 7 miles RT; total elevation gain: about 1,000 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles
