Leave from the Safeway parking lot in Ashland at 9:00 AM unless otherwise indicated. Bring water, lunch, hat, sunscreen and rain gear as appropriate. July 4Hike Black Butte (p. 216 in 100 Hikes) followed by the Mt. Shasta Parade and lunch at a street fair booth. Meet at the Ashland DMV (across from Bi-Mart) at 7:00 AM TH: Take the first Mt. Shasta Exit (mile 740). East on Mt. Shasta Blvd. for about 3/4 mile to the first left and then left on Ski Village Drive over to Everitt Memorial Highway. Left on Everitt for 1.6 miles to Black Butte Trail. Go left for 2.7 miles on the gravel road to the 5 way intersection. Left on the best gravel road for 0.6 miles to the parking area. EDT: 90 min. Description: switchback your way to the top for spectacular views all the way from the Sacramento Valley to Oregon including Mt. Shasta, Mt. Eddy, Mt. Lassen, Castle Crags, Mt. McLoughlin and the Klamath range. After summiting, we will head back into town for the noon parade followed by lunch from one of the Castle Street Food Booths. We should be back in Ashland by about 3 PM. Distance: 5.2 miles RT; 1,925 feet of climbing. Weather Forecast. RT mileage 150 miles.

July 11: Crater Peak in Crater Lake National Park (p. 74 in 100 Hikes). Meet at 8:00 AM. Bring your Golden Age Passport for Park Admission. TH: Take the Rim Drive East road from Park Headquarters 2.5 miles to the Vidae Falls Picnic Area. Estimated drive time: 2 hours. Hike description: We haven't done this one since 2002. Walk thru woods and flowers to summit of Crater Peak; return the same way. Refreshments will be served on the Terrace. Distance: 5.4 miles RT. Elevation gain: 880 ft, mostly in last half mile. Weather Forecast. RT mileage 190 miles.

July 18: Wagner Butte (p. 140 in 100 Hikes) Meet at 8:30 AM. Hike leader: Margita LaGrotta. TH: From Talent take Rapp Rd and Wagner Creek Rd 7.6 miles to junction with FS 22; go left 2 miles on FS 22 to TH. EDT: 45 min. Description: uphill most of the way, but great flower displays and spectacular panoramic views from the top. Distance: 10.4 miles RT; elevation gain: 2200 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 36 miles.

July 25: Mt Eddy (opposite Mt Shasta in California) (p. 210 in 100 Hikes) - meet 8:00 AM TH: Drive south on I-5 and take Stewart Springs Road exit (about 1.5 miles after passing rest area next to Weed); turn right at both stop signs, then left onto Stewart Springs Road; after 4 miles, turn right onto Road 17 for 9.3 miles past the"upper TH" at the PCT crossing; continue 1.3 miles to the hairpin curve; park on the right side and cross the road to the Deadfall Meadow sign and the TH. EDT: 105 min Description: Wildflower heaven, inviting lakes, spectacular views of Mt Shasta; alternate turn around point is the ridge top before the long, barren slog to the summit. Distance: 8 miles; elevation gain to summit 2,730 feet, to ridge 1,600 ft. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 165 miles.
