January 4: Pilot Rock Road to Porcupine Mountain. TH: Take Mt Ashland exit 6 off I-5; follow old Highway 99 under the freeway for just a little over 2 miles; go left onto Pilot Rock Road and drive one mile to first crossing of PCT at the power line; EDT: 30 minutes. Description: Hike west on the PCT past Pilot Rock to the top of Porcupine Mountain; return via the trail and road. Distance: about 7.5 miles; elevation gain: about 2,000 ft. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 30 miles.
January 11: Ostrich Peak Loop
TH: park at gate about 100 yards up Hitt Road, off Strawberry Lane
Description: Full loop going counterclockwise around Ostrich Peak; exact route varies from year to year; snow is possible on higher sections of trail.

January 18: Viewpoint Mike (Lost Creek Lake)
TH: From Medford drive Highway 62 past the turn off to the Lost Creek Lake fish hatchery and take next right into TH parking area; EDT: 60 minutes;
Description: very nicely laid out trail parallels Hwy 62 as it climbs through varied terrain to a large rock outcrop with good views of the surrounding area.
Continue on to lunch at the borrow pit overlook and then down to the Lost Creek Lake East Shore trail for the return. It is a bush whack from where we cross Highway 62 down to the East Shore trail. Distance: 7 miles RT; elevation gain: 1,600 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 100 miles

A winter loop hike from Safeway. Up Mountain to Pinball to Alice in Wonderland to BTI back to town. Lunch at a restaurant of the group's choosing. Distance 8 miles; elevation gain 1,900 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 0 miles.
