February 1: Collings Mountain (above Applegate Reservoir) (p.146 in 100 Hikes). TH: Drive south from Ruch about 20 miles to TH at Watkins Campground; drop off shuttle car along the way at Hart-tish Park, 3.4 miles back along the road; EDT: 75 minutes. Description: woodsy trail with excellent views. Distance: 6.5 miles; total elevation gain: 2,000 feet. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 85 miles
February 8: Illinois River Trail (p. 182 in 100 Hikes). New Hike - Leaving Safeway at 8 AM. TH: Up to Grants Pass and then down Highway 199 to Selma. At the flashing yellow light turn right on Illinois River Road 4103 for 18.6 miles to the end of the road at the Briggs Creek TH. The last 7.6 miles is gravel and high clarence vehicles are recommended. EDT: 2 hours. Description: Some of the wildest county in Oregon along the Illinois River. Follow the river 2.5 miles, crossing two side creeks on bridges and climbing 1,000'. Then head up to a ridge top junction in another 2 miles before a 900' drop back to the river and a visit to Boat Eater Rapids. Spoiler alert: you have to pay back the 900' after lunch (a clear violation of by-law V.a.4). Distance: 10.6 miles, 1,650' elevation gain. Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 160 miles.
February 15: Buck Prairie Snowshoe
TH: Take DIM about 18 miles to Buck Prairie Sno-Park. Sno-Park Permit Required; EDT: 30 minutes.
Description: follow Buck Prairie Rd a reasonable distance past the viewpoint at 1.7 miles; return the same way or complete a loop via Bullwinkle's Run, Wayback, and Peabody's cross-country ski trails.

February 22: Castle Crags ( p. 214 in 100 Hikes) - New Hike; TH: Take I-5 south to exit 724, Castella. Park outside the closed gate at the Ranger Station / entrance. EDT: 90 minutes. We are going to take the Flume Trail up to the PCT and then the Crags Trail to Castle Dome. After lunch we will go back down the Crags Trail to Bob's trail back to the cars. Distance: 10 miles; elevation delta: 2,700' Weather Forecast. RT mileage: 180 miles.
February 29: Lake of the Woods/High Lakes Trail Snowshoe
TH: Follow DIM to the Great Meadow Sno-Park at the intersection of DIM and Hwy 140. Sno-Park Permit Required; EDT: 75 minutes.
Description: Follow the trail across the Great Meadow to Lake of the Woods, then turn right and follow the High Lakes Trail a reasonable distance before stopping for lunch; return the same way.
