April 6: Lower Rogue River: Grave Creek towards Booze Creek (p. 191 in 101 Hikes) TH: Take I-5 north to Merlin (Exit 60); drive thru Merlin and follow Galice Rd 19 mi to far side of Grave Creek bridge; turn left downhill to boat ramp and TH; EDT: 90 min Description: Follow north rim of Rogue River canyon past Rainie Falls to Booze Creek and back; spectacular scenery, but trail is a little rough in places. For a shorter hike, stop for lunch at Whiskey Creek (6 miles, 1000 ft) Distance: 10 mi; elev gain: 1200 ft (guess). RT mileage: 140 mi.
April 13: Lost Creek Lake (North Shore) (p.82 in 100 Hikes)
TH: Drive 35.5 mi on Hwy 62; turn left on Lewis Rd 1 mi to TH; EDT: 60 min.
Description: "generally level", pretty trail through the woods along the north shore of Lost Creek Lake past the spur to the Blue Grotto and on to our usual lunch spot at the bench below a rock outcrop overlooking the lake; return the same way.
Distance: about 10 mi RT; elev. gain: about 500 ft. RT mileage: 100 mi.
April 20: Charly Buck / Baldy Peak Trail to Squaw Peak New Hike TH: From the Star Ranger Station go south on the Upper Applegate road for 3 miles and turn left on Road 20 (Beaver Creek Road). Follow Road 20 for 1.3 miles to the junction with FS 2000. Right on FS 2000 for 2.6 miles to the TH. Up to the Baldy Peak trail and then across the ridge above Mule Mountain and Little Grayback to Squaw Peak. Return the same way. Distance 10 miles, elevation gain 1,800'. RT mileage: 80 miles.
April 27: Middle Fork of the Applegate River (p.152 in 100 Hikes)
TH: Take Hwy 238 from Jacksonville 8 miles to Ruch; turn left onto Upper Applegate Road for 19 miles past Applegate Lake; turn left onto Carbery Creek / Elliot Creek Road for 1.3 miles to the junction of FS 1040 and FS 1050. Sharp right onto FS 1040 for 5.2 miles to junction with FS 1035; Straight on FS 1035 for 1/10 mile to TH and parking area on the left at curve; EDT: 75 min.
Description: Walk 3 miles up along the river on this national scenic trail; return the same way; lots of flowers along the way.
Distance: about 6 miles; elevation gain: about 1,000 feet. RT mileage: 105 miles.
