November 3: Fourmile Lake to Long Lake (p.116 in 100 Hikes) TH: Take DIM to Highway 140. Turn left towards Medford. Between Mileposts 36 and 35 turn right on FS 3661 for 5.7 miles to the Fourmile Lake Campground. Park at the official trailhead turnaround point. EDT 60 minutes. Description: Enjoy a late fall walk along the lakes in the Sky Lakes Wilderness to a lunch spot on Long Lake. Good views of the lakes and Mt. McLoughlin. Distance 8 miles; climbing 700'. RT mileage 90 miles.
November 10: Maple Falls (p. 45 in Best Hikes of the Marble and Russian Wilderness Areas) Meet at 8:30 AM. New Hike TH: Take I-5 to Yreka and follow Highway 3 to Fort Jones. Right on the Scott River Road for 17 miles. Past the Kelsey Guard Station and just before Bridge Flat the road crosses Scott River. Immediately past the bridge go left on Kelsey Creek Road for ½ mile. Do not cross the second bridge but continue straight past the house to the roomy trailhead. EDT 90 minutes. Description: The Kelsey Trail was built by the army in the middle 1800s as a supply line from Crescent City to Ft. Jones. Follow Kelsey Creek to Maple Falls. Distance 8 miles; climbing 2,200'. RT mileage 150 miles.
November 17: Stein Butte New Hike (p. 149 in 100 Hikes) TH: Past Applegate Lake to the T, left on Applegate Road for 0.9 mile and make a left just past the bridge into the parking area for the Seattle Bar TH. EDT 60 minutes. Description: Steady up to a ridge crest for spectacular views of the Siskiyous and then on to the Stein Butte summit, site of an old fire lookout. Distance 9 miles. 2,400' elevation gain. RT mileage 90 miles.
November 24: Briggs Creek New Hike (p. 184 in 100 Hikes) Meet at 8:00 AM TH: I-5 to the Merlin exit and then 8.5 miles towards Galice. Left on Briggs Valley Road 25 for 13.4 miles. After Big Pine Campground turn right on Road 2512 for 0.3 mile then left into the Sam Brown Campground and park near the two picnic shelters. EDT 90 minutes. Description: Starting at an old mining ghost town follow the trail along the mountain stream past active mining claims and old hydraulic mines and a flume ditch through old-growth forest to a burned out miner's cabin. There are 3 creek crossings on fallen tree trunks. Distance 10 miles. 1,700' elevation gain. RT mileage 150 miles
