Tumalo Falls and Swampy Lakes 9-22-16

This hike starts with views of the 85 foot Tumalo Falls.  The fall colors had begun to arrive, so the views were excellent.  After enjoying the falls, we followed a very active creek up the hill and eventually over to a wood shack that is used for cross country skiiers in the winter.  Most of the trail was in the forest with limited views.  About two thirds of the hike was on a well maintained path used by/for mountain bikers.

We thought we found Swampy Lakes (sans any water), but later investigation determined that the main lake (also without any water) was farther down the path than we hiked.

The partly cloudy weather was a bit colder on this hike, ranging from 45 to 52 degrees.  Although there was a chance of rain, luckily none arrived.

Since we started the hike before 9 AM, we finished our hike around lunch time, so we enjoyed lunch in the parking lot for the trailhead.  Dan had brought a beer for each hiker, so lunch time was very special.  The group then headed home (Ashland/Medford) for a well deserved shower and dinner.
