This was a Janeen Sathre led Sunday hike. She had spent three months arranging permission from the Star Ranger Station Forest Service folks and the EPA since the area is now under the control of the EPA because of their remediation work on the Blue Ledge mine.
To reach the TH required passing two locked gates. The combination given her by the Star Ranger folks opened the first gate, but neither the key nor the combination from the Star Ranger folks opened the second gate. A helpful neighbor opened the second gate for us after reviewing Janeen's EPA letter.
The road is in good shape to the TH. On the way we stopped at the sharp turn at Eileen to see the Blue Ledge mine across the draw.
The trail up was in reasonable shape, although it no longer sees much use. Occasional views to the north through tree breaks. At Slaughter House Flat there are nice views to the south.
