On Wednesday we had 4 hikers come out to hike at the Steve Miller Ranch called Pacifica. On the drive out, we were a bit concerned with the amount of rain there was going to be falling. Upon arrival, we put on all our rain gear and headed out. We started on the Powell Creek trail and the Wagon Trail. There were several metal sculptures to look at as we went. Johnathon posed on a cow. We also saw a dragonfly, a unicorn and a giant ant to name a few.

We came to a Sequoia sanctuary that had 113 Sequoia trees. They were planted on February 18, 2023 and for a 100 foot diameter circle. On February 18, 2024 a time capsule was planted in the center of the circle. They are hoping to dig it up in 50 years.

We then went around the lower pond. The rain started to really come down. After 1.5 miles, Janet and Johnathon decided their rain gear would not hold up to the rain and decided to call it quits. I can't say that I blame them. Scott and I decided to continue on. We went along the Camp Meeting Creek trail and then took a trail to the left. It started out obvious, then we had places we had to do some route finding. We circled around and finally found the trail that goes up to the Knob. From there, we could not see where the trail went. I thought it was odd, because Gaia shows it as an old road. After getting up on a rock, I could see where the “road” was. Scott and I decided to try to go down it. It was very overgrown, steep and muddy. I slipped several times and Scott ended up on his rear once. After making our way down, I decided to name it the NO-GO OVERGROWN ROAD.

We then headed out into some BLM land and saw a couple of mining claims. We then got back onto the Pacifica grounds and finished our hike. We had gone 6.57 miles and gained 1,070 feet of elevation. We were happy to get into the dry car and warm it up and turn on the seat heaters. We were glad I had towels. My rain jacket kept the water off me, but my rain pants didn't have a chance. We were soaked.
