East Applegate Ridge 1-23-19

Photos by Dan and Denise

Originally scheduled to snowshoe at what turned out to be the rainy Summit Sno-Park, a redirected, delayed and flexible troop bravely turned tail and headed for the dryer climate of the Applegate for a hike on the East Applegate Ridge Trail.

Eight hikers met at Griffin Creek Elementary School and headed out to the trailhead.  The temp initially was chilly but we were dry and chatty.  The views at first were not expansive due to the low cloud cover but they opened up as the hike progressed.

Some of the party wanted to hike to the end of the trail as they had not experienced the full length, yet distance out and back was a concern.  Dan and Mike decided to return to the cars and pick us up on Highway 238 as Liz reminded us the walk to J’ville was long and treacherous.

The day and company were enjoyable. Weather mild. The only injury of note was a Manzanita with a broken arm.  Refreshments were taken at Boomtown where the fryer browned the onion rings and crisped the fries.
