East Applegate Ridge 9-28-20

Photos by Sunny

We rolled the dice and came up with a winner with our choice of East Applegate Ridge for the Monday hike. It was chancey with a Red Flag warning, gusty winds and rising temps. But with most of the trail below the ridge we were protected on the leeward side from the prevailing winds. We started at 8 am so we wouldn't catch the brunt of the afternoon heat.

Our group of six reached the TH about 8:45 with clear skies and fresh air. The views of the beginning of Fall colors in the forested parts of the trail and the green valley below were inspiring. We only saw wisps of smoke several ridges away by the Red Buttes.

We made our Brunch spot at the top of the ridge in a scenic Oak grove. Everyone found old logs to sit on. After a round of Coffee Toffee chocolate we headed back. Along the way we came across a mountain biker training with an 80 lb hay bale strapped to his back!

Today's hike was 7.5 miles.

Four of us stopped at Boomtown for refreshments.

Happy Trails,
Rich
