East Applegate Ridge 4-8-19

Photos by Irene and Patricia

Five hardy hikers braved the elements to do this superb hike. I donned my magic pancho to ward off the Rain God and sure enough, the rain stopped. Unfortunately I removed the pancho and soon the rain resumed. Betty, being more conversant with the occult, informed me that the pancho would lose its magic powers if removed. Who knew?

In any case we had light rain on and off and it was warm. The hills were beautiful, with mist swirling through the valleys. Altogether a fine day for a hike.

We decided to forego lunch in the rain and head for Boomtown. I noticed Betty chomping at the bit and asked her to take the lead. She soon was galloping off in all directions, last seen as a black dot against a remote hillside.

Boomtown was accommodating as always and we ate our lunches there. The ladies in the patrol decided to hit the kitchen shop to find a pepper grinder while Joe Senter and I forced ourselves to have another Ashland Amber. On the way home we stopped at the Liquor store in Talent in search of a bottle of port for Patricia, and to show the wide variety of French liquors etc. available. The Monday Group is ever mindful of the need to educate.
