Sterling Mine Ditch / Jack Ash Trail - Deming Gulch to Grup Gulch 1-15-25

On Wednesday we had 7 hikers come out to hike on the Jack Ash Trail.

Before we started our hike, we spoke with Jim Reiland who is part of trail maintenance on the trail system. He had been doing a little bit of maintenance that morning. He said there would likely be a lot of downed trees with so many that had died. He wasn't kidding. After going about 3.4 miles, we started to encounter downed trees. I marked 6 spots that could use some clearing. One looked dangerous as there were multiple branches hanging partially above the trail.

We made our way up to the bench and had a lunch in the bright sunshine. It was nice to be above the fog and out of the air stagnation.

We finished our last couple of miles and made it back to the car having hiked 7.76 miles and gained 736 of elevation.
