Summit Snow Park to Lake of the Woods 11-15-21

The objective was to get some high country hikes in before they became snowed in. There were a few traces of snow beside Dead Indian and on the trail but otherwise we had a mostly fine day.

We started at Summit Snow Park and got on the PCT, crossing Hwy 140 to the intersection with High Lakes Trail. The trail was in good condition, with some minor deadfall. The big lava fields were interesting, particularly for those who hadn't seen them before.

The intention was to hike to the Great Meadows Snow Park where we had left the shuttle car, but the weather seemed to be turning foul so I sent all but the drivers along Lake of the Woods to the Lodge. Mike LeTourneau and I earned extra credit by doing an extra 1.5 miles to the car.

The lodge will be open all winter and Mike and I arrived to find the rest of the group upstairs with a friendly server and beer and fries already on the table.A good finish to an enjoyable hike.

As it turned out the weather calmed down and we didn't have rain until near Ashland.

Tip: Snow passes now required for the Snow Parks.
