Bear Creek Greenway Across Ashland 1-2-18

With the hike leader a bit hung over from binge watching Breaking Bad on New Year's Eve, he greeted 12 bright eyed hikers at Rite Aid parking on New Year's Day. We also greeted our newest member, Ann Lovett, and welcomed her to the group.

Wet thick fog was the order of the day as we set out across empty parking lots, through wooden gates and onto the Ashland Central Bicycle Path. Though some might not know it because of the fog we actually had a nice tour of several parks along the way. We passed Hunter Park, Garfield Park, and wound around North Mountain Park stopping every now and then to let the end catch up so they wouldn't be lost in the fog. After passing Ashland Creek Park and it's 44 box gardens we turned right down Hellman Street and headed towards the Dog Park. Here we found the beginning of the Bear Creek Greenway and followed it past llamas in pens and dogs on leashes to Valley View Road.

A short walk along Highway 99 brought us to our luncheon destination El Tapatio Restaurant, and completed our 6 mile walk across Ashland. There we enjoyed a fine lunch and toasted everyone a Happy New Year with Mexican beer and sangria.

Shuttles were used to bring the group back to Rite Aid where finally the sun had come out.
