The fog lifted, and a beautiful Fall day was revealed at the Enchanted Forest. The flowers of Spring were gone, but the Big Leaf Maples were on center stage. The big leafs went from Summer green to Autumn yellow and gold.
The morning hike started chilly with the temps in the low 40s from the early fog and thick cloud cover, but the hikers were warmly dressed, so it was good hiking conditions. The trail was in good shape with only a bit of mud from the week's rain.
Before we began the hike, I informed the group that the first planning meeting for AHG First Aid classes had been held on Sunday, at Liz's house, including most hike leaders and Michael Bowman and Nanci Cremer, who will instruct on first aid.
I signed the hike registry for our group of 8, and off we went on this short upward hike.
We kept a steady pace to help warm up against the chill. And by 11:30, we had reached the Felton Memorial stone, where a BLM crew of three had died in a weather-related helicopter crash in March of 1993.
After lunch, we headed back down the trail to the cars. The hike was 5 miles with 500' of gain.
Note: Next Monday, we'll do a hike at Lost Creek Lake.
Happy Trails,
Rich
