After a two-week logging project that turned into 3 months, we were finally about to gather at the TH parking lot for East Applegate Ridge.
Before starting the hike we all signed a "get well" card for our friend, Jerry LaFountain, who has suffered a broken Femur from a non-hiking fall.
The weather was cloudy and cool and we were all dressed for rain, but except but the start of the hike we didn't get much of the wet stuff.
The hillside trail was a lush green with high grass both above and below the trail. And wildflowers added color along the way.
The clouds were low and covered much of the view at the start, but gradually lifted to let in the sun and a rainbow in the valley below us.
Our group of 15 made the top of the ridge just before noon and had lunch sitting on fallen logs.
The clouds continued to lift or were blown away by a refreshing breeze that we enjoyed on the way back that now had views into California to the south.
Randy took our group photo from on top of the ridge and skillfully photoshopped one that had to leave early and two that were catching up with the group.
On this refreshing Spring day, the group hiked 6.5 miles with about 300' of gain.
Note: Next Monday we'll drive down into California for a view of Hedge Creek Falls followed by the hike up Castle Crags. It will be an 8:00 AM departure from the Rite Aid parking lot.
Happy Trails,
Rich
